Suction Jet Pump
• On All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles, the fuel must be pumped out of the fuel level sensor 2 (G169) area to the fuel delivery unit due to the shape of the fuel tank. A suction jet pump pumps the fuel from the left chamber to the right chamber in the fuel tank.
• Only check the fuel level sensor 2 if the engine shuts off due to low fuel but the fuel gauge indicates the tank is still 1/4 full.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Wrench (T10202)
• Torque Wrench (40 to 200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)
Removing
• Read the safety precautions before beginning work. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Fuel Supply.
• Observe the rules for cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Fuel Supply.
• Fuel tank and components overview. Refer to => [ Fuel Tank and Components Overview ] Fuel Tank and Components Overview.
- Disconnect the fuel lines - A and B - to the suction jet pump. Refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Fuel Delivery Unit.
- Remove the fuel level sensor 2. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor 2 ]. Fuel Level Sensor 2
- Remove the suction jet pump from the fuel level sensor 2 opening (left side of the vehicle).
- Check that the fuel hoses/lines on the suction jet pump are securely connected and are not damaged.
- Check the suction jet pump and the fuel tank for any contamination.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
- Make sure the fuel lines audibly engage. Pull on them to make sure they are securely connected.
• Route the fuel lines free of kinks.
• Make sure the line connections are securely connected.
