Trim Removal Wedge (3409)

Removing

Refer to the correct chapter for the individual unit when removing and installing:

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- If necessary, remove CDs remaining in the unit. Refer to => operating instructions.

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

Now, perform the following work procedure:

- Remove upper cover with air outlets out of instrument panel center far enough so that radio panel bolts lying beneath are accessible.

- Remove screws - arrows -.





- Using trim removal wedge (3409), carefully pry out cover of center console in area of - arrows - and remove the panel.





- Remove bolts - arrows - on radio unit.





- Pull radio unit out of installation compartment far enough until harness connectors on rear side of radio unit are accessible.

- Press together the connector lock in direction of - arrows -.





- Then swing mounting bracket up in direction of - arrow - and disconnect harness connector.





- Disengage harness connectors - arrow - from antenna connections and disconnect them.





Installing

- Connect and engage harness connectors to radio unit.

- Slide radio unit straight into instrument panel.

While sliding in the radio unit, under no circumstances press on the display or control buttons since the radio unit may be damaged by doing this.

- Secure radio unit with 4 bolts - arrows -.





- Reinstall cover for center console.

- Check coding of radio unit and code radio unit again if necessary.

Radio Units and Radio Navigation System, Golf Plus

Removing

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- If necessary, remove CDs remaining in the unit. Refer to => operating instructions.

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

Now, perform the following work procedure:

- Remove trim in center of instrument panel.

- Remove bolts - arrows - on radio unit.





- Pull radio unit out of installation compartment far enough until harness connectors on rear side of radio unit are accessible.

- Press together the connector lock in direction of - arrows -.





- Then swing mounting bracket up in direction of - arrow - and disconnect harness connector.





- Disengage harness connectors - arrow - from antenna connections and disconnect them.





Installing

- Connect and engage harness connectors to radio unit.

- Slide radio unit straight into instrument panel.

While sliding in the radio unit, under no circumstances press on the display or control buttons since the radio unit may be damaged by doing this.

- Secure radio unit with 4 bolts - arrows -.





- Reinstall center instrument panel trim.

- If necessary, deactivate antitheft coding. Refer to => [ Electronic Antitheft System, Deactivating ] Electronic Antitheft System, Deactivating

- Check coding of radio unit and code radio unit again if necessary.

Radio Navigation System

Replacement part number for radio navigation system is located on a sticker on the radio navigation system housing.

If radio navigation system is replaced, always activate antitheft coding. Refer to => Owner's Manual. Give the new code number to the customer.

If a radio navigation system from one vehicle is to be installed in another vehicle, then always make sure that radio navigation systems of both vehicles have the same replacement part number. Otherwise navigation system will malfunction since the setting of the rotation angle sensor in radio navigation system does not match the vehicle.

Removing

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

- If necessary, remove CDs remaining in the unit. Refer to => operating instructions.

- Insert Release Brackets (V/160) at left and right of radio navigation system - arrows - until they engage.





- Remove radio navigation system from installation slot - arrows -.





- Release connectors on back side of unit and remove them.

- Press locking mechanism on both sides of radio navigation system - arrow - and remove release bracket.





Installing

- Connect harness connectors to radio navigation system.

- Slide radio navigation system straight into instrument panel.

While sliding in the radio navigation system, under no circumstances press on the display or control buttons since the radio navigation system may be damaged by doing this.

Do not use adapter cable belonging to radio navigation system for navigation antenna wire connection because it cannot guarantee a correct antenna wire connection.

- If a new unit was installed, activate electronic antitheft system function. Refer to => [ Electronic Antitheft System Code ] Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

- Deactivate unit lock with electronic antitheft system function. Refer to => [ Electronic Antitheft System, Deactivating ] Electronic Antitheft System, Deactivating.

- Perform navigation system adaptation after reinstalling. Refer to => [ Navigation System, Adapting after Reinstalling ] Navigation System, Adapting after Reinstalling.

DVD Player

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Release Tool (T10315)

Removing

- Open folding center armrest.

- Press button - arrow - and fold control unit on DVD player up.





- Remove control unit from DVD player.

- Unclip frame with a suitable screwdriver at areas marked with - arrows - and remove.





- Insert release tools (T10315) in DVD player - arrows -.





Release tools must be inserted so that thicker part on lower end of tool - A - faces toward DVD player housing. Otherwise, the catch spring on DVD player cannot be pressed correctly with release tool.





- Move release tools sideways - arrows - so that nut in the release tools catches behind tab on DVD player.





- Now pull DVD player out of installation frame with both release tools.

- Release connector - arrow - on back side of DVD player and remove.





Installing

- Place DVD player on rubber buffer - arrow -. Place DVD player wiring connection on connector - A -.





- Carefully slide DVD player into frame in center console until it audibly engages.

- The rest of the installation is performed in the reverse order.

- Finally, check multimedia system for functionality.

DVD player is installed in storage bin in center console below foldable armrest.

Multimedia Control Module

Removing

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

- Remove drawer, or with corresponding equipment, both drawers under front right seat. Refer to

- Remove cover under seat in - direction of arrow -.





- Fold mount bracket - arrows - up and remove control module.





- Disengage connectors - arrows - at control module and disconnect them.





- Remove control module.

Installing

- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

- If necessary, reinstall drawers.

- Finally, check multimedia system for functionality.

Multimedia Display Unit

Hook (VAS 3370)

Removing

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

- Fold monitor out of roof console.





- Guide hook (VAS 3370) between monitor and cover in roof console and move it downward in - direction of arrow - until it contacts plastic monitor pins.





- Carefully pull monitor in - direction of arrow A - with hook (VAS 3370) until plastic pins disengage.





Monitor with plastic pins disengaged looks like this - arrow -:





- Repeat procedure for plastic pins on other side of monitor.

- Position monitor diagonally so guide pins - arrows - can be guided out of tracks.





- Pull monitor out as far as wiring connection allows. Now you can see the connector behind the monitor - arrow -.





- Press on connector locking mechanism - arrow - and remove.





Installing

- Guide monitor into mount in roof console.

- Position monitor diagonally so that guide pins - arrows - can be guided into tracks in monitor mount.





- Slide monitor into tracks to upper stop.

- Connect connectors.

- Secure wiring harness on monitor as shown in illustration - arrows - and clip connector - A - into mount on monitor - arrow -.





- Bring monitor into position so that lower plastic pins - arrow - at left and right of monitor rest in front of catches in cover.





- Now press evenly on both sides of monitor - arrows - until plastic pins engage audibly in catches.





Do not press on display because it can be damaged!

- Make sure the monitor opens and closes easily.

- Finally, check multimedia system for functionality.

Multimedia Control Unit

Radio Removal Tool (T10057)

The release tool (VAS ) consists of identical individual parts. But for removal of the control unit, you need only 2 release tools instead of the 4.

Removing

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

Release tool slits - arrows - in control unit.





- Insert release tools - A - into control unit until they engage.





- Remove control unit by grasping upper edge of frame - arrows - and folding out control unit.





- Press on connector locking mechanism - arrow - and remove.





- Remove release tools.

Installing

- Connect harness connector.

- Insert control unit at bottom into frame.

- Press control unit into center console until it engages.

- Finally, check multimedia system for functionality.

Remote Control Battery

Changing

- Open cover on remote control in - direction of arrow -.





- Remove batteries - arrow - and replace with two new ones of same type.





Observe the respective, current disposal regulations of old batteries.

Check batteries for correct polarity when inserting. It is stamped in on battery compartment of remote control.

- Close cover on remote control.

- Check remote control for correct function.

Sound System Amplifier





Removing

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

Amplifier is installed under front left seat.

- Move seat into uppermost and rearmost position.

- Unclip cover - arrow - on seat at bottom.





- Remove screws - arrows - on amplifier.





- Remove amplifier until you come to amplifier connectors.

- Disengage connectors at amplifier - arrows - and remove them.





- Remove amplifier.

Installing

- Make sure that the amplifier slides into the notch on the bracket correctly when installing.

Remaining installation in reverse order of removal.

CD Changer

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Radio Removal Tool (3316)

Removing

CD changer is installed under the foldable center armrest.

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

- Open foldable center armrest completely.

- If necessary, remove CDs remaining in CD changer. Refer to => Owner's Manual.

- Slide radio removal tools (3316) into slots designed for them on CD changer at left and right until they engage audibly.

- Pull out CD changer using radio removal tools - arrows -.





- Disengage harness connector at points designated with - arrows - and disconnect it.





- Press on retaining clamp - arrow - and pull out radio removal tools from removed unit.





Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

Digital Satellite Radio

Removing

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

- Slide seat cover off in - direction of arrow -.





- Disconnect connectors - A - and remove four screws - arrows -.





- Remove digital satellite radio tuner together with bracket.

- Remove screws - arrows - while holding nuts under bracket in place - otherwise, these will turn with screws.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

IPod Mount Adapter

In order to adapt the mount for different iPOD sizes, an adapter can be inserted in the mount.

Installing

Classic iPOD and iPOD Photo

The small adapter is needed to compensate for the different thickness of the classic iPOD and the iPOD Photo.

- Insert adapter - A - in - direction of arrow - into mount - B - to stop.





The adapter - A - is available in various thicknesses. To find out which one is needed for a unit, see => Owner's Manual

iPOD Mini

- Insert adapter in - direction of arrow - into mount to stop.





Removing

Removal is performed in the reverse order of installation.

iPod Mount

Removing

- Grasp inside storage compartment and remove it in - direction of arrow -.





- Disconnect mount connector under storage compartment.

Installing

- Connect harness connector.

- First insert storage compartment at - A - in center console and then press it in direction - B - until it engages in center console.





Storage Compartment with USB Connector

Radio Removal Tool (3316)

The storage compartment with USB connection is installed in the folding center armrest.

Removing

Before starting repair work, perform the following:

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

- Open foldable center armrest completely.

- Remove storage media and their wire connections from the USB connection as necessary.

- Insert extracting tools into slots - arrows -.





For the sake of clarity, the storage compartment is depicted in the removed state for the following work step.

- Push extracting tools apart in - direction of arrow - so that the locking mechanism disengages easily. Then pull the complete insert out of center armrest with extracting tools pressed.





- Disconnect electrical connector.

- Push the spring on the removed insert in - direction of arrow - and while doing so pull extracting tool out in - direction of arrow A -.





Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

- Place the insert into center armrest so that the USB connection is in the rear.

Multimedia Control Module

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Radio Unlock Tool (T10057_)

Removing

The multimedia control module is located in the center console.

- Insert the radio unlock tool (T10057) into the provided openings - arrows - until it locks into place.





- Press the tools in direction - A - and pull the control module in direction - B -.





- Release the connector - arrow - and pull the connector - A - off the control module.





Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

External Audio Source Connection, from 06.07

Removing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Locking Pin (T40011 )

- Open glove compartment lid.

- Insert release tool in opening provided - arrow -.





- Unclip Aux-In socket from retainer.

- Disconnect electrical connector.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

External Audio Source Connection

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Trim Removal Wedge (3409)

Removing

- Remove the center console extension.

- Press the socket clips - arrows - using trim removal wedge (3409) and remove the socket.





- Disconnect electrical connection - arrow -.





Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.
