Using the Fuel Pump
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Fuel Extracting Adapter (VAS 5190/3)
• Test Instrument Adapter/DSO (5-pin) (VAS 5565)
• Remote Control (V.A.G 1348/3A)
CAUTION!
• Fuel supply line is under pressure! Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent injuries and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connection wrap a cloth around the connection. Loosen the connection carefully to release the pressure.
• Connect the (VAS 5190) ground wire with the vehicle ground strap.
- Disconnect fuel supply line - arrow -. To do so, press in the securing ring.
- Seal the pipes so that the fuel system is not contaminated by dirt etc.
- Connect the (VAS 5190) with the (VAS 5190/3) to the fuel supply line.
- Remove the rear seat bench.
- Remove the cover from the fuel delivery unit.
- Disconnect the connector - arrow -.
- Connect the (VAS 5565) to the connector on the cover and on the fuel delivery unit.
- Connect the (V.A.G 1348/3A) to the (VAS 5565) and to the battery positive (+).
• This step allows the fuel pump to run when the engine is not running.
- Remove fuel filler cap from fuel filler tube.
- Operate the (V.A.G 1348/3A) and the shut off valve on the (VAS 5190) until the fuel tank is empty.
CAUTION!
Do not run the fuel pump dry.
Through the Fuel Tank Filler Tube
• Vehicles with engine codes BGQ and CBUA have a bayonet connection and require a corresponding adapter.
• If the adapter is not available, the threaded section on the (VAS 5190) must be held in place.
CAUTION!
Secure the (VAS 5190) ground wire to a bare area on the chassis.
- Remove the cone piece - 2 - from the shaft piece - 1 - on the (VAS 5190).
- Using insulating tape, apply a mark - arrow - on the hose at a length - a - = 1,500 mm from the end of the suction hose.
- Remove the fuel filler cap from fuel filler tube.
- Install the shaft piece - 1 - from the (VAS 5190) into the fuel tank filler tube.
- Insert the suction hose into the fuel tank until the mark made earlier - arrow - aligns with the shaft piece and extract the fuel. Refer to the (VAS 5190) operating instructions.
• A pressure point can be sensed after approximately 120 cm. Check valve in fuel tank must be pushed open. Pull out hose slightly and slide it in using a light jerk.
• Fuel tank is drained almost completely.
• Remove the hose the same way.
