Audio System - Premium Sound Software Update

Condition

Instructions: Perform this procedure on all applicable vehicles within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty

RVU - Radio, Premium Sound (Panasonic) Software Update (OP)

Tip: This Technical Bulletin is in effect for 12 months from date of publication as listed above.After that date, this Technical Bulletin will expire and no longer be in effect,
Procedure must be performed ONLY on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory.

Requirements:
Vehicle must meet ALL of the following criteria:
1. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the (OP) code open on the ElsaWeb Campaign / Action Information inquiry screen on the day of repair.
2. Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
3. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Bulletin.

Technical Background
Lower level radio software causing "NO SAT" to be displayed and radio output sound inconsistent.

Production Solution
Panasonic Premium Sound System Software level (0021) update for "NO SAT" Display and/or Sound Inconsistent.

Service

Input VIN into Elsa and check Campaign / Action Information inquiry screen for open Code (OP).
If vehicle is equipped with premium radio, use software CD Literature No.W421NSTKUPDATECD and VAS 5051, VAS 5052 or VAS 5051 B tester to update software 0021 to prevent these conditions from occurring.Follow the procedure provided.

Determining Radio Type and Software Level
1. Connect VAS tester to vehicle.Switch vehicle ignition to ON position.
2. Activate Vehicle Self Diagnosis from VAS tester and select "On Board Diagnostic (OBD)".





3. Access Address Word "56 - Radio", -arrow-.





4. Look at header information which appears at the top of VAS screen.Panasonic Premium radios can be identified by either PM6 or ZSW letters, -arrow-.

Is vehicle equipped with Premium radio?
- Yes, go to step 5.
- No, go to step 6.





5. Is software level lower than 0021, -arrow-?
- Yes, press Go To button to Exit VAS tester.Turn ignition to OFF position.Go to step 1 in Programming Procedure for Premium Radio.
- No, go to step 7.

6. Radio is not Premium type.No further action required.Close out RVU, see Warranty.





7. Radio software has already been updated, -arrow-.No further action required.Close out RVU, see Warranty.

Programming Procedure for Panasonic Premium Radio

Tip: For software programming to execute properly, vehicle battery must be maintained by an approved VW battery charger/maintainer.Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in software programming failure.

1. Connect approved VW battery charger/maintainer to vehicle battery.
2. Insert update programming CD, Literature No.W42INSTKUPDATECD, into VAS tester.
3. Turn vehicle ignition to ON position.
4. Activate Vehicle Self Diagnosis from VAS tester and select "On Board Diagnostic (OBD)".





5. Access Address Word "56 - Radio", -arrow-.

Tip: Radio may be in the ON or OFF position.Radio station presets will not be lost after the software programming has been completed.





6. At the bottom of the screen, select "Update-Programming", -arrow-.





7. Read Warning displayed on screen, and go forward to next screen, the Software programming process will begin, as shown.

Tip: A bar-graph will appear showing the programming process.
If a pop-up appears on VAS tester stating that Diagnostic link is faulty, ensure ignition is ON and select repeat.

8. After programming process is completed, follow steps on VAS tester.





9. Once programming process has completed (100% on bar-graph), the VAS tester will display "Programming Log - Save Results?"

This screen displays old and new radio information.Software level in header of screen should now be 0021, -arrow-.
- Press forward button on VAS tester.





10. VAS tester will now prompt to "Erase Fault Memory?", as shown.
- DO NOT press forward button on VAS tester.
Instead, press the Go To button and select the option to Exit the VAS tester.

11. At the VAS start screen, select "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis".
12. Select "Compiling Services".





13. Select "1001.02 - Erasing DTC memory - complete system", -arrow-.
14. When DTCs have been erased, Exit VAS tester.
15. Switch ignition OFF.

The system automatically enters parts and labor applicable to the above listed code.

For vehicles that, according to your information, cannot be corrected or reached, and one of the codes below best describe the reason, please enter one of the applicable codes into the system:
- OP 20 Customer Refused Repairs
- OP 30 Total Loss
- OP 40 Vehicle Stolen
- OP 50 Vehicle Exported
