Center Air Vent Noise

1. Crackling/creaking noises from center air vent of dashboard.

2. Cracks or fractures on mounting point of center air vent.

Technical Background





1. Center air vent contacts/chaffs the dashboard (arrows). This may leads to crackling/creaking noises when driving.

2. Center air vent contacts/chaffs the dashboard (arrows). This may leads to tension cracks or fractures on mounting points of center air vent.

Production Solution

1. Optimized production process.

2. Apply Aluminum strips on mounting points of center air vent on dashboard.

Service

1. Apply textile adhesive tape strips between lateral contact areas of the center air vent





^ Remove center air vent (1) see Repair Manual Group 85 in ElsaWeb.





^ Check three mounting points (arrows) of center air vent for cracks or fractures. If component is damaged, replace center air vent, see Repair Manual Group 85 in ElsaWeb.





^ Apply textile adhesive tape strips Part No. D373125A2 on center air vent, in the red marked area on both left and right sides.

2. Apply three aluminum strips between mounting points of center air vent and dashboard





^ Cut out three aluminum strips from aluminum kit, Part No. D381AL1A2.

^ Apply three aluminum strips on the mounting points (1) on the dashboard.

^ Install center air vent, see Repair Manual Group 85 in ElsaWeb
