Engine Installing
Engine, Installing
CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route lines of all types (e.g. for fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister system, coolant and refrigerant, brake fluid, vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.
• Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
• When installing engine/transmission assembly into the body, it is always necessary to bring the engine carrier into contact on the body using the scissor lift table (VAS 6131). Pulling up the engine carrier with the bolts damages the thread inserts!
Procedure
Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:
- Make sure alignment pins for centering engine/transmission are installed in cylinder block. Install if necessary.
If the subframe with suspension assembly has been removed from the scissor lift table (VAS 6131) :
- Position the axle assembly with subframe again on the prepared scissor lift table (VAS 6131).
- Set engine on scissor lift table (VAS 6131).
If transmission is not yet bolted on:
- Support engine with support (VAS 6131/7).
- Install transmission.
- When installing the engine, use scissor lift table (VAS 6131) to lift so far that the selector cable can be attached.
- Top off the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) level.
- Reconnect all lines and hose connections that were disconnected for the removal sequence.
- Connect air conditioning lines.
- Fill up oil for power steering.
- Fill the engine oil.
- Install the selector lever.
- Electrical connections and routing.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to--> [ Draining and Filling ] Procedures.
• After installing the engine/transmission assembly, perform a vehicle alignment.
- Perform road test and check all Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memories.
Observe safety precautions that apply to road tests. Refer to --> [ Safety Precautions ] Safety Precautions.
