Engine - Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair






Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

Removing

- Let engine cool off.

- Remove the rear engine cover in - direction arrows - if applicable.





- Remove connector on Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor (G70) - 1 -.

- Release tension from spring clips - 2 - and remove right air guide hose - 3 -.





- Disconnect breather line - arrow - to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve (N80) in engine compartment.





- Remove connector - 1 - from camshaft adjustment valve 1 (N205).

- Remove right crankcase housing ventilation - 2 -, unclip hose from clamp and pull it forward in - direction of arrow - with coolant line attached.





- Remove connector - 2 - from EVAP canister purge regulator valve (N80), pull valve - 1 - down from bracket and lay it aside.





CAUTION!
Hot steam may escape when opening expansion tank. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to eyes and scalding. Cover cap with a cloth and open carefully.

- Open and seal reservoir to remove pressure from cooling system.

- Remove bracket - 1 - to obtain better access.

- Now remove Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (G62) - 2 -.





Place a cloth beneath to catch draining coolant.

- Remove retaining clip and remove ECT sensor (G62).

Installing

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Replace O-ring.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model.

- Insert ECT sensor (G62) as quickly as possible so that coolant does not drain unnecessarily.

- Ensure sensor retaining clip is seated securely.

- Check coolant level, add as required. Refer to --> [ Check coolant level. ] Procedures.
