Compression Check: Testing and Inspection






Compression, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Spark plug removal tool (3122 B)

Compression tester (VAG 1763)

Puller (T40039)

Procedure

Engine oil temperature min. 30 °C

Battery voltage min. 12.5 V

- Switch off ignition.

- Remove left and right upper air filter housings. Refer to --> [ Air Filter Assembly Overview ] Air Filter Assembly Overview

- Remove spark plugs and ignition coils with power output stages in cylinders 1 through 8. Refer to --> [ Ignition Coils with Power Output Stage ] Service and Repair.

- Using spark plug removal tool (3122 B), remove spark plugs.

- Check compression using compression tester (VAG 1763).

Using tester, refer to --> operating instructions.

- Have a second technician press accelerator pedal completely and at the same time operate starter long enough until pressure increase no longer appears on tester.





Assembly is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Install all spark plugs with ignition coils and power output stage. Refer to --> [ Ignition Coils with Power Output Stage ] Service and Repair.

After test is completed:

- Connect vehicle diagnosis and service system (VAS 5052).

- Perform vehicle system test. Refer to " Guided Fault Finding".

- End vehicle system test, this will automatically erase diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) entries which occurred during the assembly.

- Generate readiness code in connection with road test.

Observe safety precautions that apply to road tests.

- Perform test drive.

- Then perform vehicle system test anew and repair any occurring malfunctions if necessary.
