Air Cleaner Housing: Locations



Air Filter Assembly, Overview

Lower part of air filter, removing and installing
Air guide pipe, removing and installing
Connection to compressor for air suspension, separating

5 - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor 2 G246
- For cylinder bank 2 (left side)
- For cylinder bank 1 (right side), the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor G70 is equipped with Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor G42.
6 - Seal
- Replace if damaged
7 - Air filter upper part
- On right side with connection to Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor V101
8 - Filter element
9 - To Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor V101

- Secured to lock carrier

Air Filter, Lower Section, Removing and Installing

- Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror 80 - 200

The removal of air filter on right side of vehicle is described in the following procedure.

To gain better access for removal and installation, remove respective front wheel housing liner.







- Remove rear engine cover in direction of - arrow -.







- Disconnect connector to respective Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor - 4 - .
- Loosen spring clips - 3 - and remove intake hose.
- Remove hose - 1 - to Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor V101 on upper part of air filter.
- Remove connecting line to air suspension compressor
- Release retaining clips - 2 - and remove upper part of air filter.







- Remove lower part of air filter at screw - 1 - . Also loosen screw - 2 - to have more room for movement.







- Press air duct - 2 - off lower part of air filter from wheel housing side inward using Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror 80 - 200.

NOTE: To install lower part of air filter, coat air duct connecting pieces with silicone-free lubricant.

Air Guide Pipe, Removing and Installing

- Remove right and left intake hoses.







- Loosen hose clamp - 1 - on Throttle Valve Control Module J338 and remove bolts - 3 - on air guide pipe.
- Forcefully press vacuum hose retainer - 1 - together and remove hose connection downward.







- Then disconnect hose - 2 -.







- Remove crankcase housing ventilation hose connections - 1 -.
- Then remove both pressure regulation valve screws - 2 - and remove valve.

Only upper screw can be seen in illustration.
- The air guide pipe - 3 - can now be press down off Throttle Valve Control Module J338 and pull out in direction of - arrow -.

Air Suspension Compressor Connection, Disconnecting







- Disconnect connecting line at right air filter - arrow - as follows:







- Carefully pry off green circlip - 1 - using a screwdriver. Then press clamping ring - 2 - in direction of - arrow -.
- Pull only loosened line - B - from connection - A - at air filter.
