Oil Temperature Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection

Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil pressure gauge (VAG 1342) with adapter (VAG 1342/14)

Voltage tester (VAG 1527 B)

Connector test set (VAG 1594 C)

Procedure

Oil level OK

Engine oil temperature approximately 80 °C.

- Remove the front engine cover in - direction of arrows - if applicable.

- Disconnect electrical harness connector from oil pressure switch (F1) - item 2 -.

- Remove oil pressure switch - 1 -.

- Connect oil pressure gauge (VAG 1342) with adapter (VAG 1342/14) into hole for oil pressure switch.

- Install oil pressure switch - 2 - into oil pressure gauge (VAG 1342).

- Place the brown wire of the oil pressure gauge (VAG 1342) on a known good ground -GND- ("-").

Oil Pressure Switch, Checking

- Connect voltage tester (VAG 1527 B) using adapter cables from connector test kit (VAG 1594 C) to oil pressure switch and battery positive ("+").

Light Emitting Diode (LED) must not light up.

If LED lights up:

- Replace oil pressure switch (F1).

- Start engine.

While starting engine, watch pressure tester and LED as oil pressure switch may open during start.

At 1.2 to 1.6 bar pressure, the LED must light up.

If LED does not light up:

- Replace oil pressure switch (F1).

Oil Pressure, Checking

- Start engine.

Oil pressure at idle: min. 1.2 bar.

Oil pressure at 2000 RPM: min. 3.0 bar.

If the specifications are not obtained: Check valve or oil pump malfunctioning.

- Replace oil pump. Refer to --> [ Oil Pump ] Oil Pump.

Assembling

Assembly is performed in reverse order.
