CSC Roof, Removing

During the following steps, protect the adjacent components from damage. Tape off components or lay foam between the individual components.

If a roof is replaced, then the following steps must be included in the procedure:

Sun shade, removing, refer to => [ Sun Shade, Removing ] Sun Shade, Removing

Tensioned headliner with tensioning bands, removing, refer to => [ Tensioned Headliner, Removing ] Tensioned Headliner, Removing

Tensioned headliner rail, removing, refer to => [ Tensioned Headliner Rail, Removing ] Tensioned Headliner Rail, Removing

Left and right roof pillar trim, removing, refer to => [ Roof Pillar Trim ] Roof Pillar Trim

Rear window frame, removing, refer to => [ Rear Window Frame, Removing ] Rear Window Frame, Removing

Remove hydraulic lines from hydraulic pump, refer to => [ Hydraulic Pump Connector Assignment ] Hydraulic Pump Connector Assignment

Main hinge hydraulic cylinder, removing, refer to => [ Hydraulic Cylinder in Main Hinge ] Hydraulic Cylinder In Main Hinge






- Open roof with convertible top operating button until rear lid with rear shelf tips back.

- Bring the rear lid into its service position. Refer to => [ Rear Lid Service Position ] Rear Lid Service Position.

- Close glass panel with sunroof switch.

- Remove luggage compartment trim panels.

- Remove the electrical wires and hydraulic lines in the luggage compartment from the cable ties - arrows - and cable brackets.

- Disconnect rear window heating connector - 2 - on left longitudinal member and connectors for roof pillar flap opening sensors (G566/G567) - 4 -.

- Loosen cable guides - 3 - on main hinge.






- Disconnect hydraulic lines on hydraulic pump for hydraulic cylinder in roof pillar. Refer to => [ Hydraulic Pump Connector Assignment ] Hydraulic Pump Connector Assignment.

- Remove hydraulic cylinder in main hinge. Refer to => [ Hydraulic Cylinder in Main Hinge ] Hydraulic Cylinder In Main Hinge.

- Loosen water drain hose duct - 1 - from body.

- Remove screw - 2 - and remove rear shelf lock sensor (G563/G564).

Guide cable with sensor under locking bracket. Mark location of rear screw, loosen it and guide cable under locking bracket. Re-tighten screw.

- Disconnect connectors - 5 and 6 - on convertible top control module.

- Remove ground connection - 4 - on longitudinal member.






- Place Roof Suspension Device (VAS 6205) - 1 - in holes in main hinge - 3 -.

- Rotate Roof Suspension Device (VAS 6205) - 1 - via threads - 2 - far enough apart - arrow - until lifting frame makes contact with main hinges - 3 -.

Main hinges must not be pressed apart by the lifting frame.

- Slide retainer - 5 - over lifting tool pins - 4 -.

Have at least one additional technician help with the positioning and installing of workshop crane with lifting frame.

Strap must not be tensioned. Straps is only for protection and should lay loosely.

Glass panel must be free of dust and grease so that the suction cups adhere properly.






Guide Shop Crane (VAS 6100) - 1 - with Lift Arm Ext./Workshop Hoist (VAS 6101) and installed Roof Suspension Device (VAS 6205) - 2 - diagonally - arrow - under vehicle.

- Secure suction cup on glass panel and lifting frame on lifting tool.

- Secure suction cup with a band running around the glass panel and roof pillars. Band must fit loosely.






- Now loosen screws - 2 - in main hinge - 1 -.

Have at least two additional technicians help raise out and guide the roof away from the vehicle.

One technician on workshop crane, one technician in main hinge area and at least one additional technician at roof pillar.

When raising roof out of vehicle, ensure it does not collide with other components.






- Raise back of roof - arrow a - until main hinge is raised out of mounting pins.

- Guide lifting tool with roof back - arrow b - until roof pillar is guided out of lock fittings.

- Raise roof - arrow c - until it can be guided away from vehicle with no danger.
