Roof Pillar, Removing

After removing roof pillar trim, ensure trim is not damaged by the following roof movement.






- Loosen the end eyes (2 and 6) on tensioning bands (3 and 4) on the outside of the main hinge. Refer to => [ Routing Tensioning Bands 4 and 5 ] Routing Tensioning Bands 4 and 5. (as shown in illustration N61-10146)

- Remove roof pillar trim. Refer to => [ Roof Pillar Trim ] Roof Pillar Trim

- Remove screws - 4 - on eyes - 3 - and allow roof pillar trim - 1 - to hang down on tensioning bands - 2 -.






- Open glass panel completely.

- Insert Guide Rail Assembly Gauge (VAS 6370) in upper guide in guide rail - 4 -, slit on knurled screw - 3 - must be horizontal.

- Obtain dimensions Guide Rail Assembly Gauge (VAS 6370) on front - a - and rear - b - of front guide rails and note these dimensions.

- Gauge must be slide to dimensions as far as front stop - arrow - and as far as rear stop - arrow -.

- Remove the gauges.

After removing roof pillar trim, ensure trim is not damaged by the following roof movement.

When luggage compartment trim is installed, ensure support is not positioned in longitudinal member opening.

To support roof, both sides of luggage compartment trim should be either removed or installed.

The bypass screw on the hydraulic pump must be opened after the repair position has been reached on vehicle from May 07. This prevents damaging the hydraulic system.






- Open roof with convertible top operating switch until it is just before the position shown.

- Place Hinge Supports (VAS 6365) in upper position - 2 -.

- Place Hinge Support (VAS 6365) in mounting hole in main hinge - 1 -.

- Switch ignition off, roof lowers in stages until supports - 4 - are resting on longitudinal members - 5 -.






- Remove inner seal - 2 - in area of front guide rails. Begin at rear end of front guide rail.

- Remove water guide foil - 1 -.

- Press seal on again.






- Remove roof pillar trim - 2 - without loosening tensioning bands. Refer to => [ Roof Pillar Trim ] Roof Pillar Trim.

- Pull cover - 5 - for locking mechanism - 4 - in - direction of arrow b -, if equipped.

- Remove screws - 3 - for locking mechanism - 4 -.

The inside screw - 3 - will come out but will be held inside the locking mechanism by a rubber washer.

The outside screw - 3 - will come out of the locking mechanism.

- Remove spacer plates and note number of them.






- Remove the bolt - 3 -.

- Cut the cable tie - 4 - on the water drain hose and remove the water drain pipe - 5 -.






- Remove Hinge Supports (VAS 6365).

- Close roof until all sections are in position but not locked.

- Pull water drain out of guide rail in area of screw head - 4 -.

- Place base - 2 - of Side Member Support (VAS 6367) on seat belt guide rail - 1 - - arrow a -.

- Press support together and allow round formation on head - 3 - to position on screw head - arrow b - due to spring force - 4 -.

- Tighten screws - 5 -.


Do not loosen screw - 4 - under any circumstances. This bolt is the last fastener for the front guide rail. If it is loosened, the adjustment of the guide rails to each other is lost.

If roof pillar is removed, roof must not be operated.

Screw - 7 - must be marked very precisely. The position of this screw adjusts the side pivoting of roof pillar.






The screws - 9 - are already removed.

- Mark the position of the screws - 7 -.

- Remove screws - 7 and 8 - from main hinge - 2 -.

- Note number of washers and spacer plates.

- Remove screw - 5 - from locking mechanism - 3 -.

- Remove screws - 6 - from front guide rails - 3 -.

- Remove the roof pillar - 1 - upward. The seal in under the rear window frame in the rear.
