E-Box, Left Side Of Engine Compartment, Through 10.08

Depending on equipment, two different E-boxes are in use (High or Low). The following illustrations depict the High version. Removing and installing the Low version is performed in the same way.


Follow the procedure in the Repair Information when disconnecting and connecting the battery. Refer to => [ Disconnecting and Connecting Battery In Engine Compartment ] Disconnecting and Connecting Battery In Engine Compartment or => [ Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment ] Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment.

Removal

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Disconnecting and Connecting Battery In Engine Compartment ] Disconnecting and Connecting Battery In Engine Compartment or => [ Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment ] Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment.

- Slide securing bracket - 1 - in - direction of arrow - and remove cover of E-box - 2 - upward.






- Remove hex nuts - 1 - (M5= 4.5 Nm, M6= 6 Nm).






- Open - arrows - covers - 2 - for wire guides at E-box.

- Remove wires from connecting pins.

- Unclip wires from wire guides.

- Remove the central bolt - arrow - (9 Nm) for E-box - 1 -.






Remove the central bolt - arrow - presses off the E-box - 1 - upward from E-box bracket.

- Remove E-box - 1 - upward from E-box bracket.

The battery and battery carrier must be removed in order to be able to remove flat terminal housing - 1 -.






- If necessary, remove air filter housing.

- Remove battery. Refer to => [ Battery ] Battery.

- Remove the mounting bolts - arrows - of battery carrier - 1 -.






- Remove battery carrier - 1 - from the vehicle.

- Press straps on E-box bracket apart from each other - arrows B - and slide flat terminal housing - 1 - sideways - arrow A - out of E-box bracket.






- Press straps on E-box bracket apart from each other - arrows C - and slide flat terminal housing - 2 - toward front - arrow D - out of E-box bracket.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - of E-box bracket - 1 -.






It depends on vehicle equipment whether an auxiliary relay carrier is installed.

- Pull E-box bracket - 1 - as far as the cable lengths of the auxiliary relay carrier permit upward from the stud bolts.

- Unclip auxiliary relay carrier - 1 - sideways out of E-box bracket - 2 -.






- Remove E-box bracket - 2 - from vehicle.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Tighten the screws and nuts to the tightening specifications. Refer to => [ E-Box on Left Side of Engine Compartment, Through 10.08, Tightening Specifications ] Specifications.

- Place cover - 2 - onto E-box and slide securing bracket - 1 - in - direction of arrow - until cover - 2 - is engaged.






Then check whether cover - 2 - of E-box is correctly engaged.
