CSC Roof, Closing without Electro-Hydraulic Assistance


The vehicle is not ready to be driven. The locks on the lock fitting cannot be locked.

• The procedure described is used to reach the necessary repair position.

• The roof must always be supported when in the repair position.

• The hydraulic cylinders should only be pressed back with a plastic wedge.

• The roof should be moved with at least one more technician.

• The roof movements should always be done parallel and evenly.

• After the repair, the roof may possibly have to be brought back into a position which the sensors and control module recognize.

• Emergency closing with electro-hydraulic support is described in the Owner's Manual under "Tips and Advice".


The following steps must be performed very carefully and cautiously.

Protect yourself from injuries and the components from damage.






- Lower all windows.

- Open rear lid and open bypass screw on hydraulic pump. Refer to => [ Hydraulic Pump Assembly Overview ] Hydraulic Pump Assembly Overview.

- Remove the trim panel from both frames. Refer to => [ Assembly Frame Covers ] Assembly Frame Covers.

- Press press left and right hydraulic cylinder piston rods - 1 - forward - arrow B - with a plastic wedge - 2 -.

- Another technician press the assembly frame down into the locking mechanisms - a arrows -.

- The locking devices must be completely open. The position of the rear locking mechanism - 3 - indicates if they are open completely.






- Store rear lid on assembly frame.

- With a second technician, grasp right and left between cover caps - 1 - and interior trim - 2 - - arrow a -.

- With a second technician, pivot the rear lid with rear shelf - 3 - parallel and evenly out toward rear - arrow b -.

- Bring the rear lid into its service position. Refer to => [ Rear Lid Service Position ] Rear Lid Service Position.

• Ensure left and right roof pillar flaps are tilted up.

• If the roof is brought into a repair position, an additional technician should be ready with the prepared Hinge Supports (VAS 6365).






- With another technician, grasp left and right at front under roof center section - 2 - and at rear - a arrows - under main hinges - 3 -.

- Raise roof parallel and evenly out of luggage compartment - arrow c -.

- A third technician can support center of roof center section at rear - arrow b -.

- Now grasp at center and rear under roof pillar - a arrows -. Ensure the roof pillars can swing properly.

- Continue move roof - arrow c - or bring into into repair position needed.

- Third technician can continue supporting rear of roof center section at center - arrow b -.
