CSC Roof, Opening without Electro-Hydraulic Assistance


The vehicle is not ready to be driven. The locks on the assembly frame cannot be locked.

The procedure described is used to reach the necessary repair position.

The roof must always be supported when in the repair position.

The hydraulic cylinders should only be pressed back with a plastic wedge.

The roof should be moved with at least one more technician.

The roof movements should always be done parallel and evenly.

After the repair, the roof may possibly have to be brought back into a position which the sensors and control module recognize.


The following steps must be performed very carefully and cautiously so that no one is injured and no components are damaged.






- Open rear lid and open bypass screw on hydraulic pump. Refer to => [ Hydraulic Pump Assembly Overview ] Hydraulic Pump Assembly Overview.

- Remove the trim panel from both frames. Refer to => [ Assembly Frame Covers ] Assembly Frame Covers.

- The left and right hydraulic cylinder piston - 1 - forward - arrow b - with the wedge (T10357) - 2 -.

- The assembly frame is pressed into the locking devices - a arrows - by another technician.

- The locking devices must be completely open. The position of the rear locking mechanism - 3 - indicates if they are open completely.

- Store rear lid on assembly frame.






- Lower all windows.

- Loosen tensioned headliner without loosening tensioning bands. Refer to => [ Tensioned Headliner, Removing ] Tensioned Headliner, Removing.

- Open the glass panel - 4 - completely with a hex socket wrench at roof motor emergency control.

- Guide hex wrench in bolt of drive motor.

The bolt is pushed in a few millimeters so that the drive can be disconnected from the engine. Glass panel of sunroof can be moved only in this position without damaging other parts.

- Use the wedge (T10357) to pivot the left and right retainers - 1 - with the hydraulic cylinders - 2 - forward - arrow a -.

In this way, the locking mechanisms on the windshield frame and on upper rear window frame are opened.

- With a second technician, grasp rear window frame at right and left on side window seal - arrow b -.

- Pivot the rear window frame - 3 - parallel and evenly upward - arrow c - until it rests on the roof center section.






- With a second technician, grasp right and left between cover caps - 2 - and main hinges - 1 - - arrow a -.

- With a second technician, pivot the rear lid with rear shelf - 3 - parallel and evenly out toward rear - arrow b -.

Ensure left and right roof pillar flaps are tilted up.

If the roof is brought into a repair position, a third technician should be ready with the prepared Hinge Supports (VAS 6365).

If storing the roof all the way toward the rear is desired, ensure storage roof place in luggage compartment is free.






- With a second technician, grasp center and rear - a arrows - under roof pillar - 1 - at left and right.

- With a second technician, swing roof - 2 - parallel and evenly out toward rear - arrow b - until necessary repair position is reached.
