Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Mandrel (T10060 A)
Follow the procedure in the Repair Information when disconnecting and connecting the battery. Refer to => [ Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment ] Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment.
Removal
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment ] Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment.
- Remove EVAP canister - 1 - upward from catches - arrows -.
- Lay aside EVAP canister - 1 - with hoses connected.
- Remove noise insulation.
- Remove coolant fan.
Before removing ribbed belt, mark the top side and direction of travel. When installing, pay attention to correct running direction and installation position. If the belt is installed in the opposite running direction or is positioned incorrectly, the belt will fail!
- Mark running direction of ribbed belt.
- Remove ribbed belt.
- Remove A/C compressor screws - arrows -.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.
- Remove three screws - arrow - and remove A/C compressor from bracket.
• When removing the A/C compressor, ensure that both centering sleeves remain in opposite threaded holes in the bracket.
• Hoses on A/C compressor can remain connected.
• Tie A/C compressor - 3 - to a suitable place under the vehicle using bundling wire - 1 - until it is ready to be reinstalled.
• Make sure that hoses - 2 - are not pulled off or kinked.
- Remove the (T10060 A) from the tensioner.
- Remove generator mounting bolt - arrow - (23 Nm).
- Remove lower idler pulley screw - arrow - (40 Nm) and remove pulley.
- Remove lower generator screw - arrow -.
- Disconnect harness connector - 1 -, remove the wire from wire bracket - 2 - and remove cap - 3 -.
- Remove the wire retainer - arrow - from generator.
- Remove nut - 1 - (15 Nm) on B+ wire - 2 - from generator and set aside B+ wire.
- Remove generator downward from vehicle.
Installation
• When installing an already used ribbed belt, note direction of travel marked when it was removed!
• Before installing the ribbed belt, make sure all drive accessories (generator, air conditioner compressor) are secured in place.
• When installing the ribbed belt, make sure it is properly seated in the belt pulley!
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Drive threaded sleeves - A - out of generator housing approximately 4 mm in - direction of arrow -.
- Tighten all threaded connections to the specification. Refer to => [ Generator Tightening Specifications ] [1][2]Alternator.
Observe notes for threaded connections of battery terminals. Refer to => [ Battery Post/Terminal ] Battery Post/Terminal.
- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment ] Disconnecting and Connecting Batteries In Luggage Compartment.
- Start the engine and verify that the belt is running properly.
- Turn off the engine.
