Tip:
If door seal is not damaged it may be re-used. Before beginning repair, inspect outer door seal bonding on all doors.
Carefully inspect areas highlighted in figures 3 and 4.
Inspecting Seal Fit
^ With light pressure on the seal (see figure 1) the sealing surface of the seal must not lift up.
Tip:
To ensure optimal bonding of outer door seal, temperature of door and outer seal must be at least 20C (68F).
^ Disable interior lighting to prevent battery drain.
^ Clean bonding surfaces thoroughly with adhesive removal solution, Part No. D 002 000 10 or equivalent.
^ Using compressed air, dry bonding surfaces thoroughly.
Rebond the outer door seal (old part).
^ Apply adhesive Part No. D 002 100 or equivalent on the outer door seal, properly position seal on door frame and press down slightly, see Repair Manual Group 57, Front Door, Central Locking System, Outer Door Seal Removal and Installation, or Group 58, Rear Door, Outer Seal Removal and Installation in ElsaWeb. This ensures that the adhesive is optimally distributed.
^ After allowing adhesive to set up for a minimum of 5 minutes, press down hard on the seal by hand, and then several times with application roller -VAS 3356-. Carefully remove excess adhesive with adhesive removal
solution, Part No. D 002 000 10 or equivalent.
Tip:
DO NOT inspect freshly bonded seal surfaces, door MUST remain OPEN for 2 hours to allow adhesive to cure.
^ Enable interior lighting.
Installation of outer door seal (new part)
^ Install outer door seal, see Repair Manual Group 57, Front Door, Central Locking System, Outer Door Seal Removal and Installation, or Group 58, Rear Door, Outer Seal Removal and Installation in ElsaWeb.
