Convertible Top, C Segment Seals, Water Leak

Water leaks into interior at the C segment and M segment seals.

Water enters rear side window(s) (see illustration 1), drops on roof bar flap. Roof trim damp (see illustration 2).

Other Potential Leak Locations

1. Insufficient Sealing of C Segment Seal to Roof Pillar Seal





- Both Seals must meet at a 45 degrees angle (see illustration 3, arrow)

- Insufficient contact or too much pressure in the seal contact surface (see illustration 3, arrow) can lead to water leak.





- The water drips (see illustration 3, arrow) from the lower end of roof bar seal onto the roof pillar flap. No sign of leak above the seam joint (see illustration 4).

2. Leak at M Segment/Roof Pillar/C Segment Seal
- C segment, M segment and roof pillar intersection (see illustration 5) leak can cause water marks at side under C segment towards pillar flap (see illustration 6, arrows).

3. C-Segment Seal Corner Drain

- Plugged drain tube (debris in water path) -1-

- Insufficient sealing of seal joint -2-

- Seal produced without "post" feature -3-

- Roof bar seal installed incorrectly -4-

Service

Tip:
Perform inspections and repairs on both sides of vehicle.





With roof closed, perform visual check of C-segment gaps. Confirm gaps are within tolerance.

Perform Alignment as necessary.





Place roof into position for inspection.





Tip:
Remove debris from water drain path prior to water test.

- Verify correct installation of drain tube - 1-

- Inspect for adequate sealing of seal joint -2- and presence of "post" feature -3-





Pour cup of water into C segment gutter and confirm drainage beneath vehicle.
- If drainage appears insufficient, inspect and repair drain tubes.





Add Butyl cord, Part No.: AKL 45000505, as necessary to properly seal joint.





Tip:
If NOT installed correctly, lower lip of roof side bar seal will roll up and not be felt during test.

At roof side bar seal, feel underneath for presence of lower lip along entire length of rear section.





If lower lip presence cannot be confirmed, perform visual inspection.

- Use wedge, Part No.:3409 to begin separation of seal from side bar panel





Pull back roof side bar seal and visually inspect.

Correct installation as necessary.





Reseal with Butyl cord Part No.: AKL 45000505





For M segment seal that does not have the "post" feature, perform modification of lower corners.





Cut length of hose Part No.: 1JM 133 001 (as shown) with an inside length of 11 mm and outside length of 15 mm.

Tip:
A single stroke cut will provide optimum performance

Bond in place (angle cut facing down) with adhesive, Part No.: 3M(TM) 08008.

Tape corners down with masking/ paint tape.

Repair Verification - Water Test

Use water hose with spray nozzle to perform a three minute water test on each side of vehicle.
