Gas Discharge Lamps

Function of Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13) and Right High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L14) can be checked using Vehicle Electrical System Control Module (J519) Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).

When performing fault-finding, use Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B) or Vehicle Diagnosis and Service System (VAS 5052 A) in "Guided Fault Finding" function.

Illustrations depict replacement of gas-discharge headlamp at left headlamp.

Replacement of Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13) and Right High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L14) is performed the same.

Removal


Always following usage and safety information for gas discharge lamps. Refer to => [ HID Headlamps, Usage and Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions!

During removal and installation, leave ignition key with remote control inside the vehicle to prevent the doors from locking and possibly activating the Coming Home / Leaving Home functions on its own.

- Remove headlamp. Refer to => [ Headlamp Housing ] Headlamp Housing.

- Press wire bracket - 1 - upward.






- Remove housing cover - 1 - with headlamp wiring module - 2 - from headlamp.

- Disengage the harness connectors - arrows - and disconnect the connectors.






- Release gas discharge lamp by turning locking mechanism - 1 -.






- Carefully remove gas discharge lamp - B - from mount - C -.






- Disconnect connector - A - from HID lamp - B -.

Installation

- Insert new gas discharge lamp so that retaining tab on reflector - A - fits into recess - B arrows - on gas discharge lamp.






- Carefully press gas discharge lamp - B - into retaining tabs - C - until lamp engages.






- Release gas discharge lamp by turning locking mechanism - 1 -.






Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Make sure that seal is seated properly when installing housing cover with High-intensity Gas Discharge Lamp Control Module. Water intrusion will damage headlamp.

If a headlamp with automatic vertical headlamp aim control is removed, basic setting of headlamps must always be performed after installation.

- Check headlamp for function.

- Check headlamp adjustment and adjust headlamp if necessary.
