Engine Oil: Service Precautions
For a list of engine oils that meet Volkswagen oil quality standards refer to the most current Technical Service Bulletin "Engine oils which meet Volkswagen Oil Quality Standards..."
Use only engine oils that expressly meets the Volkswagen oil quality standard specified for this vehicle. Using any other engine oil can cause serious engine damage that will not be covered by any Volkswagen Limited Warranty.
If you need to add oil and there is none available that meets the Volkswagen oil quality standard your engine requires, you may add a total of no more than 1/2 quart (0.5 L) of high-quality "synthetic" oil that meeds ACEA A3 specifications and has a viscosity grade of SAE 5w30 or SAE 0w30
Do not overfill! Over filling can cause misfire DTCs to be stored in the ECM (J220). To prevent overfilling, add approx. 0.5L less then capacity, start engine and let run until engine is at operating temperature (approx 60 deg C (140 deg F)). Turn ignition OFF, wait approx 3 mins, check dipstick, then fill to MAX.
Turbo engines only: After changing oil and filter, start and run engine at idle until oil pressure light goes out. DO NOT rev engine, this could cause damage/failure of the turbocharger.
