Transmission Oil, Draining and Filling
Transmission Oil, Draining and Filling
Use the DSG(R) fluid as a replacement part. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
Short Description:
First, the oil temperature is read out. If it is higher than 50 °C (122 °F), then let the transmission cool down.
Turn off the engine, remove the overflow tube and drain any oil. Install the overflow tube and overfill the oil.
Start the engine and drain any excess oil until the oil level has reached the overflow tube.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 B)
• Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A)
Requirements:
• The engine is off.
• The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are at the same height.
• The noise insulation is removed if necessary
• The selector level is in the "P" position.
• The vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051 B) is connected
• The oil should not be warmer than 45 °C (113 °F) when starting the procedure.
Draining
- Follow the rules of cleanliness when working on the transmission.
- Only use the oil for the DSG(R) transmission that is available as a replacement part. Other oils can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.
Risk of injury due to hot oil.
- Connect the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051 B) and identify the vehicle using Guided Functions.
- Select DSG transmission.
- Select Check Fluid Level.
• Let the transmission cool down if the oil temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
Do not start the engine if there is no transmission oil in the transmission.
- Engine off - do not start!
- Remove the plug - arrow - near the pendulum support.
A black plastic overflow tube is located in this hole (with a 8 mm hex socket head). Its length determines the oil level in the transmission.
- Remove the overflow tube - arrow - and let the oil drain.
About 5 liters of oil will drain.
- Reinstall the overflow tube and tighten it to 3 Nm.
- Measure the length of the pipe, dimension - a - before installing the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) to the oil bottle and shorten the pipe as necessary. Refer to => [ Shortening the Pipe on the : ] Modifying the Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A).
- a - = 210 mm
• Dimension - a - is measured starting from the shaft (green surface) on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A).
Filling
- Install the adapter from the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) into the plug hole hand tight.
- Shake the bottles before opening.
- Fill with 5.5 liters of transmission oil.
- To change containers, close the shut off lever or hold the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) higher than the transmission.
- Reinstall and tighten the plug - A - hand tight.
- Start the engine.
- Press the brake pedal and select each selector lever position for approximately 3 seconds, then move the selector lever back into the "P" position.
- Do not turn off the engine.
- Check the oil level and fill, as necessary.
