Fuel Tank and Components Overview
1 Bolt
2 Ground Connection
• Ensure the connection is securely seated.
3 Bolt
• 11 Nm
4 Rivet
5 Protective Plate
• Riveted to the lower clamp at the factory.
• When replacing the fuel tank, lay the protective plate on the filler tube and rivet clamp.
6 Wire Bracket
• Clipped in on protective plate
7 Bolt
• Replace
• 25 Nm
• To mount the fuel tank straps, only bolts with loose washers may be used. If other bolts are used, the straps could twist when the bolts are tightened.
8 Fuel Tank
• Support using the engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A)
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.

11 Mounting Strap
• Note the installed position.
12 Heat Shield
13 Supply Line
• To fuel rail
14 Fuel Filter
• Installed location, refer to => [ Fuel Filter, Installed Position ].
• Arrow points in direction of flow.
15 Vacuum Line
• Green or with marked green
• From the Leak Detection Pump (LDP) (V144) to the intake manifold.
• Clipped to the fuel tank.
• Ensure the line is securely seated.
16 Vent Line
• White
• From the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister to the EVAP canister purge regulator valve (N80)
• Clipped to the side of the fuel tank.
• Ensure the line is securely seated.
17 Seal
• Replace
• To install, place into the opening of the fuel tank dry.
• Lubricate with fuel internally, only when installing the fuel delivery unit.
18 Fuel Delivery Unit
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Service and Repair.
• Checking fuel pump, refer to => [ Fuel Pump, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.
• Note the installed position on the fuel tank, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit Flange, Installed Position ].
• With the fuel level sensor (G)
• Fuel level sensor, removing and installing. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor (G) ] Service and Repair.
• Clean the strainer if contaminated.
19 Locking Ring
• 110 Nm
• Ensure the ring is securely seated.
• Use wrench (T10202) for removal and installation.
20 Return line
• Blue
• Clipped to the side of the fuel tank.
• Ensure the line is securely seated.
21 Cap
• Replace if damaged
22 Fuel Tank Door Unit
• With rubber cup
• Removing and installing.
23 Supply Line
• Black
• Clipped to the side of the fuel tank.
• Ensure the line is securely seated.
Fuel Delivery Unit Flange, Installed Position
The mark - 3 - on the flange points in the opposite direction of travel.
Blue or blue marked return line - 1 -.
Black supply line - 2 -.
Fuel Filter, Installed Position
The pin - 2 - on the filter must engage in the recess on the filter bracket - 1 -.
