MFD 2 Navigation Radio

Familiarity with the function and operation is essential in the event of customer concerns. Refer to the Owner's Manual.

Anti-theft coding is equipped with protection code number, deactivating electronic anti-theft system.

Use "Guided Fault Finding" when servicing or performing Fault Finding using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B).

For proper function of the navigation system, rotation angle sensor in unit must be set corresponding to installation position of unit in the vehicle. Therefore, always note the replacement part number when replacing the unit. An incorrect installation causes malfunctions in the navigation system.

After connecting the battery, check all the vehicle accessories, for example, the radio, the clock, the Comfort packages.

By the use of magnetically adhered antennae on vehicle roof, there is the hazard that the compass module will malfunction due to magnetic influence and remaining magnetization of the vehicle roof. For complaints of inaccurate or faulty direction displays on the compass module, ask the customer whether a magnetically adhered antenna is being used before starting repair work.

General Information

The MFD 2 DVD unifies the functions of a navigation system with those of a high-value RDS radio.

The MFD 2 DVD double DIN housing contains:

An RDS radio.

A 6.5 inch color display in 16:9 format.

A navigation system with GPS satellite receiver.

A DVD drive for the navigation system.

The MFD 2 DVD has the following speakers:

Each front door has one bass speaker, one midrange speaker and one treble speaker.

Each rear door has one bass speaker and one treble speaker.

The MFD 2 DVD is available as a version which operates the speakers via 4 unit-internal speaker outputs or as a version with an Amplifier (R12). The speakers are connected directly to the amplifier and the radio/navigation system speaker outputs are as the signal input for the amplifier.

Playback of audio CDs is only possible with a separate CD changer (R41).

In conjunction with a MFD 2 DVD a CD changer is also always installed in the center console.

There are connection options for connecting a CD changer/satellite radio/telephone.

The antenna in the rear window (Sedan) has diversity function and the satellite radio also has a roof antenna. The antennas on the wagon model are located in the rear side window and the roof antenna.

Troubleshooting

The radio navigation system is equipped with On Board Diagnostic (OBD).

Use the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B) under "Guided Fault Finding".

Electronic Anti-Theft System

The radio navigation system has an anti-theft coding, which operates in conjunction with the instrument cluster.

After disconnecting the power supply, the radio navigation system is ready to be used again once the power supply is connected. The radio code does not need to be entered again. The anti-theft coding must be activated for the first time and the radio navigation system must be connected in the same vehicle.

Notes regarding function

After the initial activation of the anti-theft system, an internal radio code is stored in the radio navigation system and in the instrument cluster. If radio navigation system voltage is now cut off for repair work, a data exchange is then performed between radio navigation system and instrument cluster after reconnecting the voltage supply.

During this, the internal radio code of radio navigation system is compared to the one in the instrument panel. If the radio code is identical, the instrument cluster recognizes that the radio navigation system connected belongs to that vehicle and the radio navigation system can be used immediately. The radio code does not need to be entered again.

If the radio navigation system is replaced, then the radio code must be entered.

Deactivating electronic anti-theft system, refer to.

Then, after the S-contact is switched on via the ignition lock, the comparison between instrument cluster and radio navigation system is started automatically.

The comparison lasts approximately 5 seconds. During this time, diagnostic devices must not be connected or disconnected.

When the power supply has been disconnected, the radio can be used again once the power supply is connected. The radio code does not have to be entered again.

The anti-theft coding is activated and locks the radio navigation system as soon as:

radio navigation system is installed in a different vehicle.

the instrument cluster is replaced.

A radio navigation system that has been locked by the anti-theft system will then show the letters "SAFE" and "1000" on its display when switched on.

To cancel the lock, deactivate the anti-theft protection.

Electronic Anti-Theft System, Deactivating

Reactivating a locked radio navigation system is only possible by entering correct radio code number for anti-theft protection.

The radio code for the anti-theft system is attached to the radio card next to the serial number. Refer to the Owner's Manual.

For reasons of safety, do not leave the radio card in the vehicle. Get the radio code from the customer.

If a radio/navigation system is being replaced, then use the radio code of the replacement radio.

Inform the customer the radio code has been changed.

- Get the radio code.

- Switch on radio navigation system.

Word "SAFE" and number row "0000" appear in display.

- Enter the code number listed on the radio card, do this by selecting and confirming characters on the selection screen for letters and numbers in succession.

With the entry of the first character, the number row "0000" is overwritten.

- Press the right knob to confirm the radio code.

- Once the correct radio code number has been entered, press the "OK" button to confirm it.

Unit is enabled and ready for operation.

If the radio code has been entered incorrectly, it can be corrected immediately in two subsequent attempts. If radio code is entered incorrectly three times, then the radio navigation system is locked for an hour. Radio navigation system can then be switched on and insert ignition key in ignition lock. After one hour, then the procedure for deactivating the anti-theft system can be repeated. Keep in mind: Always two attempts, after that the radio/navigation system will lock up for one hour.
