Selector Lever Cable through 02.2009
• After installation, the selector lever cable movement must be checked and adjusted.
Removing
- Move the selector lever into the "S" position.
- Disconnect the cable - arrows 1 - and then remove it from the cable bracket - arrow 2 -.
• Do not use pliers because the tabs on the cable bracket could break off.
• Do not bend the selector lever cable.
- Pry the cable - 1 - off the lever - 3 - using a open end wrench - 2 -.
- Lift the vehicle.
To remove the cable and/or the selector mechanism, remove the heat shield and, if necessary, any exhaust system components.
- Remove the heat shield under the selector mechanism.
- Remove the shift housing under the selector lever.
- Remove selector lever cable securing plate. Always replace the securing plate.
The shift housing is pushed slightly off the selector lever cable in the - direction of arrow -.
The locking strap must be pushed forward in order to remove the cable in the - direction of arrow 1 -.
- Push the bolt upward at the same time with a screwdriver - arrow 2 -.
- Insert the screwdriver from underneath while pushing the locking strap forward.
For Clarity:
• - 1 - push the strap forward
• - 2 - push the bolt upward
- Remove the selector lever cable.
Remove the shift housing from the selector lever cable.
Installing
Do not grease the cable.
- Route the selector lever cable without tension and place in the bracket on the transmission. Do not secure it there.
- When installing, make sure the selector lever cable is routed correctly.
- Clip the selector lever cable into the bracket. Make sure the bracket does not touch the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) cooler.
Tighten the nuts to 8 Nm.
- Position the shift housing on the selector lever cable.
- Install the selector lever cable into the selector mechanism.
- Insert the selector lever cable into the bracket and then insert the bolt through the eye from the top in the - direction of arrow 2 -.
Install the securing plate only after having checked the cable for ease of movement. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable through 02.2009, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.
- Secure the selector lever cable with a new securing plate to the cable mounting bracket on the selector mechanism.
- Install the shift housing, the heat shield and the exhaust system.
- Adjust selector lever cable after installing. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
