Windshield Wiper System
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (VAG 1331)
CAUTION!
Disconnect the battery (A) before working on the electrical system. Refer to => [ Battery A, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery A, Disconnecting and Connecting.
• Get the radio anti-theft code before disconnecting the battery (A)
• After connecting the battery (A), check any affected system or component (radio, clock, comfort electrical connection etc.) according to the repair information and/or the operating instructions.
Wiper Arms, Removing
• In order to remove the wiper frame and linkage and the Windshield wiper motor (V) it is necessary to first remove the wiper arms and the cowl panel trim and to loosen the plenum chamber separator.
• Before removing wiper arms, make sure Windshield Wiper Motor (V) is in rest position. Only in this way can the end position for the wiper arms be adjusted correctly when installed.
- Pry off covers - arrows - using a screwdriver.
- Loosen the nuts - arrows - but do not remove them completely.
- Gently move the wiper arms until they come loose.
- Now remove the nuts and remove the wiper arms.
Plenum Chamber Cover, Removing
• The cover is attached in a guide rail on the windshield.
- Remove the rubber seal - 1 - from the plenum chamber.
- Carefully pry off the cover - 2 -.
Wiper Frame with Linkage and Windshield Wiper Motor, Removing
- Remove the screws - arrows - and remove the separator - 1 - on the plenum chamber.
- Remove the screws - arrows - and washers.
- Disconnect the connector on the windshield wiper motor (V).
- Remove complete wiper frame.
Windshield Wiper Motor, Removing from Wiper Frame
- Pry the linkage rods - 1 - off the crank using a screwdriver.
- Remove the screws - 2 - on the Windshield Wiper Motor (V).
- Remove Windshield Wiper Motor (V) from wiper frame.
- Remove nut - 3 -.
- Remove crank.
Windshield Wiper Motor in Wiper Frame, Installing
- Connect the connector to the Windshield Wiper Motor (V) and then let the Windshield Wiper Motor ( V) run all the way to its end position. Then quickly operate the windshield wiper switch.
- Disconnect the connector once again and tighten the screws on the Windshield Wiper Motor (V).

- Install the crank and adjust the rods to that they form a single line - as shown in the illustration -.
- Tighten nut.

- Press the rods onto the crank.
Wiper Blade
Removing
- Press together both steel rails on closed side of wiper rubber using universal pliers, remove at side from upper clip and remove rubber complete with rails out of remaining clips of wiper blade.
Installing
- Guide both steel rails into first groove of wiper rubber so that holes in rails point toward rubber and engage in rubber tabs of groove.
- Install the new wiper blade into the lower clips on the wiper blade.
- Press together both steel rails using universal pliers and insert into upper clip so that clip tabs engage on both sides into the grooves - arrow - on the wiper blade.
