Vehicle Information

Condition

MIL ON DTCs P1297, P2187 or P2279 are Stored in ECM Fault Memory, Possible Oil Leak

MIL ON, and one or more of following DTCs are stored in ECM data memory:
^ Whistle noise, air rushing noise from engine.

^ Oil leaks from oil filler cap.

Technical Background

The conditions described may be caused by a malfunction of the crankcase ventilation pressure regulating valve or turbocharger intake pipe (Figure 1), resulting in excessive vacuum or excessive pressure being applied to the engine crankcase.

Tip:
Crankcase ventilation / turbocharger system requires a total of 2 check valves.

On earlier version crankcase ventilation systems, the guide pin of the check valve in the intake manifold side of the valve (Figure
2) may break, preventing the check valve from correctly sealing when boost pressure is present in the intake manifold. (Depending
on part number, the check valve may be installed horizontally inside the housing.) Intake boost pressure may thus be applied
to the engine crankcase, resulting in possible oil leaks.

A whistling noise or air rushing sound may be the result of an excessive amount of vacuum being applied to the engine crankcase. This condition can be detected by verifying whether the oil filler cap is being firmly held in position to the engine even after it has been unlocked.

Production Solution

Improved crankcase ventilation pressure regulating valve and turbocharger intake pipe.

Service

Procedure

Step 1

Does UPDATE 17D2 show "OPEN" in ElsaWeb?

YES: Complete UPDATE 17D2.

NO: Continue to step 2.

Step 2:

^ Remove crankcase ventilation pressure regulating valve (Figure 3, number 1) and check part number.

^ Replace crankcase ventilation pressure regulating valve according to table, replace gasket (06F103483E).

Step 3

Tip:
Step 3 only valid when currently installed crankcase ventilation pressure regulating valve is "P" suffix.

WARNING:
Risk of injury due to high temperature present on turbo related components.

^ Remove turbo inlet pipe.

^ Install new turbo inlet pipe (06F103215B), with new gasket
(06F145757F) and two 34.6mm clamps (N 90409601), WORK COMPLETE.
