Clutch, LuK

Clutch, LuK

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Flywheel Retainer (3067)

Centering Pin (T10097)

Centering Mandrel (3176), for engines which have a crankshaft with a smaller diameter, or engines with a needle bearing in the crankshaft

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Grease (G 000 100)

Removing

Remove the transmission.

- Install the (3067) to loosen bolts.

- Loosen the bolts in small stages in a diagonal sequence.

- Remove the pressure plate and the clutch plate.

Installing

Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:

Allocate the thrust plate and clutch plate via the engine code.

Make sure the centering sleeves for the engine to transmission are installed in the cylinder block, install if necessary.

If the alignment sleeves are not installed, difficulty in shifting, clutch problems and possibly noises from the transmission (loose gear chatter) may develop.

Clutch Plate Installed Position

The mark "Getriebeseite" (transmission side) faces toward the transmission.

Checking Ends of the Diaphragm Spring

Wear up to half the thickness of the diaphragm spring - arrows - is permitted.

Checking Spring and Rivet Connections

- Check the spring connections - arrows A - for damage and the rivet connections - arrows B - for secure fit.

Only check position of adjustment mechanism with new pressure plates

Both edges - A - of the adjusting ring must be located between both notches - B arrows -.

If the adjusting ring takes on a different position with new pressure plates, the pressure plate and clutch plate must not be installed.

With used clutches, the adjusting ring may take on a position outside of the notches.

Replace the clutch plates and pressure plates with damaged or loose rivets.

Clutch plate and thrust plate must only be replaced together.

Allocate the clutch plate and thrust plate via the engine code.

Clean the input shaft splines and (in case of used clutch plates) clean the hub splines, remove corrosion and apply only a very thin coating of grease (G 000 100) on the splines. Then move the clutch plate back and forth on the input shaft until the hub moves freely on the shaft. Excess grease must be removed.

Pressure plates are corrosion protected and greased. Only the contact surfaces may be cleaned, otherwise the service life of the clutch will be considerably reduced.

The pressure plate contact surface and clutch plate lining must make full contact with flywheel. Only then may the bolts be installed.

- Reposition the (3067) for installation.

Engines with a crankshaft with a smaller diameter - arrow -, or engines with a needle bearing - arrow - in the crankshaft

Centering the clutch disc, removing and installing the pressure plate on engines with a crankshaft with a smaller diameter, or engines with a needle bearing - arrow - in the crankshaft.

Ignore - arrows A and B -.

Continuation for All

- Position the pressure plate on the alignment sleeves.

- Install all bolts uniformly by hand until the bolt heads make contact on the thrust plate.

- Tighten the bolts - item 4 -=> [ Bolt ] Clutch Overview, LuK in small steps and in diagonal sequence to prevent damaging the centering holes of the pressure plate and the centering pins of the dual mass flywheel.

Install the transmission.
