Engine Control Module with Anti-Theft Immobilizer, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Locking pliers

- If it is desired to replace Engine Control Module (ECM), connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 B) and perform the guided function "Replace Engine Control Module (ECM)".

Removing

- Switch off ignition.

- Remove windshield wiper arms => Electrical System

- Remove plenum chamber cover => Body Exterior 64 Flush Bonded Windows; Plenum chamber cover, assembly overview.

- Remove bolts - 1 -.





- Remove the engine control module cover if present.

- Cover plenum chamber with a clean cloth so that it does not get scratched.

- Raise engine control module with retaining mounting slightly.

- Release engine control module - arrows - and pull it out slightly.

- Bend raised ends - 1 - of locking bracket outward.





- Remove shear bolts - 2 - with locking pliers and remove locking bracket.

- Slide connector release catches - 1 - on Engine Control Module (ECM) outward and disconnect both harness connectors.





- Remove Engine Control Module (ECM).

Installing

- Slide engine control module - 1 - in - direction of arrow - into mounting frame until it engages.





- Tighten mounting frame.

Tightening Specifications 6 Nm

- Connect harness connectors to Engine Control Module (ECM) and slide release catches - 1 - inward.





- Take a new locking bracket and tighten new shear bolts evenly until bolt heads shear off.

- Install plenum chamber cover => Body Exterior 64 force-fit windows; Plenum chamber cover, assembly overview.

- Install windshield wiper arms => Electrical Equipment
