Camshaft, Lifters and Push Rods: Locations
Valvetrain Assembly Overview
1. Intake camshaft
^ Checking radial clearance with Plastigage, Wear limit: 0.1 mm
^ Run out: max. 0.01 mm
2. Camshaft bearing cap
3. Exhaust camshaft
^ Checking radial clearance with Plastigage, Wear limit: 0.1 mm
^ Run out: max. 0.01 mm
^ Removing and installing Camshafts.
4. 5 Nm + 1/8 turn (45 degree)
5. Seal
^ If seal is leaking, replace completely
^ Coat contact surfaces of sealing rings when installing control housing.
^ Do not spread sealing rings excessively when inserting
6. Control housing
^ Oil contact surface of sealing rings before installing
^ Check control housing strainer for soiling before installation.
7. 8 Nm
^ Insert using locking fluid D 000 600 A2
8. Exhaust camshaft adjuster
^ Identification: 32A
^ Rotate engine only with camshaft adjuster installed and chain installed
9. Intake camshaft adjuster
^ Identification: 24E
^ Rotate engine only with camshaft adjuster installed and chain installed
10. 60 Nm + 1/4 turn (90 degree)
^ Replace
^ Contact surface of sensor wheel at bolt head must be dry when installing
^ To remove and install, counter-hold at camshaft using an open-end wrench (27 mm) Camshafts.
11. Cylinder head height
^ Minimum height: a = 139.9 mm
12. Drive pinion for high pressure pump
^ Without mechanical vacuum pump
- With inside needle bearing
- Oil needle bearing before installing
^ With mechanical vacuum pump
- With internal gearing
- Bearing shell fits in only one position
13. Bearing shaft
^ Without mechanical vacuum pump
- Ring groove in shaft points forward
^ With mechanical vacuum pump
- Bearing shell fits in only one position
- Lubricate the bearing shell before installing
14. Valves
^ Do not rework, only grinding is permitted
15. Alignment bushing
16. Cylinder head
^ Check for distortion
^ Rework valve seats
^ After replacing replace entire amount of coolant
17. Pump plunger
^ Note installation position.
18. Support element
^ Before installing, check axial play in camshafts.
^ Do not interchange
^ With hydraulic valve clearance compensation
19. Valve stem seal
20. Camshaft timing chain
^ Mark direction of rotation before removing (installation position)
21. Securing clip
^ Check for secure seat
22. Roller rocker lever
^ Before installing, check axial play in camshafts.
^ Do not interchange
^ Check roller for easy movement
^ Lubricate contact surface
^ Use securing clip to clip onto support element when installing
23. Valve spring
^ Note installation position
24. Valve spring plate
