Generation II Haldex Clutch Grooved Ball Bearing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pressure plate (VW 402)
• Punch (VW 412)
• Thrust piece (VW 431)
• Thrust piece (VW 454)
• Tube (3296)
• Drive bushing (41 - 501)
• Wrench (VW 278 B)
• Alignment fixture (T10030/6)
• Heat gun (V.A.G 1416)
- Disconnect exhaust system at clamping sleeve - arrows - and remove rear part of exhaust system.
• Flex joint of exhaust system must not be bent more than 10 degrees, otherwise it may be damaged.
- Remove rear flexible disc. Refer to => [ Rear Flexible Disc ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the rear final drive flange nut.
A Bolts M10 x 25
B Bolt M8 x 15 (installed from rear in bracket (3415))
- Remove the rear final drive flange. Use three arm puller (e.g. Kukko 12-1) if difficult to access.
- Remove the rear final drive flange seal using the extractor lever (VW 681).
- Remove the Haldex clutch. Refer to => [ Haldex Clutch ] Haldex Clutch.
- Place Haldex clutch on a clean workbench.
- Remove the Haldex clutch housing.
A - two jaw puller (Kukko 20-20)
- Remove circlip - 1 -.
- Press out grooved ball bearing.
- Press in new grooved ball bearing until seated.
- Insert circlip - 1 -.
- Warm grooved ball bearing - 2 - to approximately 80° C using the hot air gun (V.A.G 1416).
- Center axial needle bearings - 5 through 7 - on clutch plate - 1 -. refer to => [ Clutch Pate Assembly ] Generation II Haldex Clutch Assembly Overview
- Position Haldex clutch housing by hand on clutch disc - 1 -.
• The axial needle bearings - 5 through 7 - must not change their centered position when installing the housing.
- Before installing, lightly coat new seal on outside circumference and between sealing lips with high performance Haldex clutch oil.
- Drive in new seal until seated using the thrust piece (T10019). Do not tilt seal when doing this.
- Press on the rear final drive flange.
- Install new nut with locking compound (D 000 600) and tighten. Tightening specification => [ (Item 14) Nut ] Generation II Haldex Clutch Assembly Overview.
A Bolts M10 x 20
B Bolt M8 x 15 (installed from rear in bracket (3415))
- Install Haldex clutch. Refer to => [ Haldex Clutch ] Haldex Clutch.
- Install rear flexible disc. Refer to => [ Rear Flexible Disc ] Service and Repair.
- Install exhaust system and then align it free of tension.
- Fill with new high performance Haldex clutch oil and check oil level in Haldex clutch. Refer to => [ Generation II Haldex Clutch Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Generation II Haldex Clutch Oil Level, Checking and Filling.
