Roof Trim
Roof Insulation/Reinforcements
• An exemplary sedan without sunroof is shown in the following description. For wagons with/without sunroof, removing and installing roof insulation/reinforcements is performed accordingly.
Removal
Vehicles with sunroof:
- Open sunroof.
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove the front and rear interior and reading lamps in the headliner.
- Remove storage compartment with console in headliner. Refer to => [ Storage Compartment with Console in Headliner ] Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim
- Remove upper trim on A-pillars. Refer to => [ Upper A-Pillar Trim ] Pillar Trim
- Remove sun visors.
• Basic: => [ Basic Sun Visors ] Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim
• Double: => [ Double Sun Visors ] Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim
- Remove roof grab handle.
- Remove upper B-pillar trim. Refer to => [ Upper B-Pillar Trim ] Pillar Trim
- Remove trim on C-pillars. Refer to => [ C-Pillar Trim ] Pillar Trim
- Remove roof end strip. Refer to => [ Roof End Strip ] Roof End Strip
Vehicles with rear side-airbag:
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
All vehicles:
- Remove lock carrier cover. Refer to => [ Lock Carrier Cover ] Luggage Compartment Trim
- Fold left bench seat and its backrest forward.
- Remove side upholstery:
• with rear side airbags: => [ Side Upholstery with Side Airbag ] Rear Seats
• without rear side airbags: => [ Side Upholstery without Side Airbag ] Rear Seats
- Remove luggage compartment side trim (wagon):
• Right: => [ Right Luggage Compartment Side Trim ] Luggage Compartment Trim
• Left: => [ Left Luggage Compartment Side Trim ] Luggage Compartment Trim
- Remove D-pillar trim panels. Refer to => [ D-Pillar Trim ] Pillar Trim.
Vehicles in which an interior rearview mirror with rain sensor is installed:
- Remove the side cover caps from the interior rearview mirror. Refer to => [ Interior Rearview Mirror with Rain Sensor ] Interior Rearview Mirror
All vehicles:
- Remove headliner. Refer to => [ Molded Headliner ] Molded Headliner
- Cut roof insulation/reinforcements - 1 - in direction of travel in strips approx. 6 cm wide - 2 - using a carpet knife.
- Pull off strips - 2 - from roof.
- Cut back adhesive residue - 3 - using (V.A.G 1561 A) and (V.A.G 1561/20) - 4 -.
• If paint structure was damaged while removing roof insulation/reinforcements, paint damage must be repaired.
Installation
• Processing instructions of adhesive must be observed when installing roof insulation/reinforcements.
- Apply adhesive D 190 MKD A3 on to insulation/reinforcements using (V.A.G 1628).
- Dimension - a - = 67 ± 2 mm
- Dimension - b - =34 ± 5 mm
- Dimension - c - = 23± 5 mm
- Transport roof insulation/reinforcements into vehicle through rear lid and press on to roof over the entire surface.
