Cooling System - General Repair Information
General Repair Information
CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route lines of all types (for example: fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP) , coolant, refrigerant, brake or vacuum) and electrical wires so that the original path is followed.
• To prevent damage to the lines, make sure there is sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
CAUTION!
Hot steam may escape when opening thee expansion tank cap. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to your eyes and from scalding. Cover the cap with a cloth and open very carefully.
• When the engine is warm the cooling system is under pressure. If necessary release the pressure before beginning repair work.
• Hoses are secured with spring type clips. In cases of repair only use spring type clips.
• Hose clip pliers (VAS 6340) or spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024A) are recommended for installing spring type clips.
• While installing, route coolant hoses free of tension and without them coming into contact with other components.
• Arrows on coolant pipes and coolant hoses must line up across from each other.
• Always replace gaskets and seals.
Check the cooling system for leaks using the cooling system tester (VAG 1274), adapter (VAG 1274/8 ) and adapter (VAG 1274/9).
