Water Pump: Service and Repair

Coolant Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Engine support bridge (10-222 A) with bracket with spindle and hook (10-222A/10), shackle (10-222A/12), adapter (10-222A/13 ) and adapter (10-222A/18)

• Refractometer (T10007)

• Drip tray (VAG 1306) or drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

• Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)

• Torque wrench (40-200 Nm) (VAG 1332)

• Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024A)

Removing

- Drain the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.

- Remove the front section of the right wheel housing liner..

- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Install the (10-222A) with the (10-222A/10 ), (10-222A/12), (10-222A/13) and the (10-222A/18) as shown and support the engine in the installed position at the right lifting eye.





- Remove the engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts - arrows -.





- Only lower the engine 40 mm using the (10-222A).

- Remove the coolant pump pulley. To do so, counter hold the pulley using a drift (standard).

- Remove the coolant pump bolts - 1 -.





- Remove the coolant pump - A - as shown.





Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Lubricate the new O-ring with coolant.

- Install the coolant pump.

- Tighten the coolant pump bolts. Tightening specification: 8 Nm.

- Install the coolant pump pulley and bolts. Tightening specification: 20 Nm.

- Raise the engine again using the (10-222A) and secure it with new engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts.

- Align the engine mount as follows:

• There must be a distance - a - of at least 10 mm present between the engine mount bracket - 2 - and the right longitudinal member.





• Casting edge on the engine mount bracket - 2 - must stand parallel to the engine mount arm - 1 -.

• Tightening specifications from the mount, refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Engine Assembly - Fastener Tightening Specifications.

- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
