Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Service and Repair
Fuel System, Bleeding
• To prevent damage to the catalytic converter, the fuel system without return line must be bled after repair work on the fuel lines or on the fuel filter. The vehicle must only be started after bleeding it first.
• Observe the rules for cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Remote control (VAG 1348/3A)
• Remote control for VAG 1348 (VAG 1348/3-3)
• Suction pump (VAS 5226)
• Adapter for K-jetronic test device (VAG 1318/20)
• Adapter (VAG 1318/20-1)
CAUTION!
Fuel system is under pressure! Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent injuries and contact with skin. Before disconnecting the connection, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release the pressure by carefully disconnecting the connection.
- Remove the cap from the fuel rail.
- Turn the valve on the T-piece - arrow - counterclockwise until its completely open.
- Install the (VAG 1318/20-1) onto the (VAG 1318/20).
- Now install the assembled (VAG 1318/20) onto the valve on the fuel rail, tightening it by hand.
- Connect the hose from the (VAS 5226) as illustrated.
- Turn the valve (on the T-piece) clockwise into the bleed valve to stop.
- Check the adapter and hose connection for leaks.
• The fuel pump is activated by the output diagnostic test mode.
- Connect the (VAS 5051B) as follows:
- Connect the diagnostic cable - 2 - connector to the Data Link Connector (DLC) in the driver's footwell.
- Switch on the ignition.
- Press the buttons for "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis", " 01 - Engine electronics" and "Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) " on display in succession.
- Press the right arrow button on the display to initiate the fuel pump activation.
- End the output diagnostic mode when the fuel with no bubbles flows out of the fuel rail valve.
- Turn the valve on the T-piece - arrow - counterclockwise until its completely open again.
- Clamp the (VAS 5226) hose (for example, with (3094)) and remove it from the (VAG 1318/20-1 ).
- Remove the (VAG 1318/20) from the fuel rail valve.
- Install the cap onto the fuel rail valve.
