Ignition System: Service and Repair
Ignition System Components Assembly Overview
1 Ignition Coil 1 with Power Output Stage (N70 )
• Ignition coil 2 with power output stage (N127).
• Ignition coil 3 with power output stage (N291).
• Ignition coil 4 with power output stage (N292).
• Ignition coil 5 with power output stage (N323).
• Ignition coil 6 with power output stage (N324).
• Use the puller for ignition coil (T10095A) for removal. Refer to => [ Ignition Coils with Power Output Stages ] Service and Repair.
2 Electrical Connector
• 4 pin.
• Use the assembly tool (T10118) to disconnect. Refer to => [ Ignition Coils with Power Output Stages ] Service and Repair.
3 Bracket
• For the harness connector of the Knock Sensor (KS) 1.
4 Bolt, 10 Nm
5 Electrical Connector
• Black, 3 pin.
• Terminals of the sensor and connector are gold plated.
6 Knock Sensor (KS) 1 (G61)
• Terminals of the sensor and connector are gold plated.
• Component location: Cylinder block, exhaust side.
7 Bolt, 20 Nm
• Tightening specification affects the function of the KS.
8 Exhaust Camshaft Adjuster
• With sensor wheel for the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor 2.
• if the camshaft adjuster has been removed, adjust the valve timing. Refer to => [ Valve Timing, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
9 Timing Chain Cover
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Timing Chain Cover Assembly Overview ] Timing Chain Cover Assembly Overview.
10 Seal
• Always replace.
11 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 2 (G163)
• For the exhaust camshaft.
• Terminals of the sensor and connector are gold plated.
12 Bolt, 10 Nm
13 Electrical Connector
• Black, 3 pin.
• Terminals of the sensor and connector are gold plated.
• Mark the connector before removing.
14 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor (G40)
• For the intake camshaft.
• Terminals of the sensor and connector are gold plated.
15 Knock Sensor (KS) 2 (G66)
• Terminals of the sensor and connector are gold plated.
• Component location: Cylinder block, intake side.
16 Electrical Connector
• Black, 2 pin.
• Terminals of the sensor and connector are gold plated.
17 Intake Camshaft Adjuster
• With sensor wheel for the CMP sensor.
• If the camshaft adjuster has been removed, adjust the valve timing. Refer to => [ Valve Timing, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
18 Spark Plug
• Remove and install using the spark plug removal tool (3122 B).
• Type, tightening specification and electrode gap, refer to => [ Spark Plug Technical Data ] Spark Plug Technical Data.
19 Control Housing
• For camshaft adjustment.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Camshafts ] Service and Repair.
