2 Color Visual Indicator, Checking

Batteries that have a colorless or light yellow visual indicator do not have to be tested or charged. Jump starting must not be used!

There is a risk of explosion during testing, charging or jump starting.

These batteries must be replaced.

Visual Indicator General Information

The green charge level indicator is no longer used on original equipment batteries beginning with index 5K0 or on replacement batteries, part number 191 915 105 AC, beginning with index 000 915 105 DX. The introduction of a new color will take place as a running change, that is, there will be transition period for both displays. In the future the only colors will be: black, no color or bright yellow.

The visual indicator provides information on the battery electrolyte level.

The battery charge cannot be checked with the visual indicator. Use the load test instead. Refer to Midtronics => [ Battery, Testing ] Midtronics Battery Tester or VAS 6161=> [ Battery, Testing ] Battery Tester VAS 6161.

To obtain an accurate reading, gently tap the charge indicator with a screwdriver handle or rock vehicle slightly. By doing this, the air bubbles that occur normally during battery charging (even during vehicle operation) that adversely affect charge indicator reading will be displaced. Thereby, the color indicator of the visual indicator is more accurate.

• Air bubbles can especially form under visual indicator when a battery is charged, including when charged while driving. These bubbles may cause the visual indicator to read inaccurately.

• As the charge indicator is located in a single cell, the indication is only valid for that cell. An exact assessment of battery condition should always be confirmed by performing battery test. Refer to Midtronics => [ Battery, Testing ] Midtronics Battery Tester or VAS 6161=> [ Battery, Testing ] Battery Tester VAS 6161.

• The visual indicator can be installed at various locations on top of battery.

Two Color Displays Are Possible:

• Black, the electrolyte level is OK

• No color or light yellow, electrolyte level too low. The battery must be replaced.
