17 Inch Caliper (1KF)

Installation date: through 02.06.06

After replacing the brake pads, firmly press the brake pedal several times with the vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.

Use the brake charger/bleeder unit (VAS 5234) or extraction device (V.A.G 1869/4) to extract brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir.

Before removing the brake caliper or disconnecting the brake hose, the brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2) must be installed (this dissipates pressure).





1 Brake Disc

Internally ventilated brake disc: 330 mm diameter.

Brake disc thickness: 28 mm.

Wear limit: 26 mm.

Hat section id disc: 210 mm diameter.

Wear limit: 211 mm.

Must always be replaced together on both sides of the vehicle.

To remove, first remove the brake caliper, do not remove the brake line.

2 Bolt

14 Nm

Brake disc to wheel hub.

3 Locking Bolt

14 Nm

For the parking brake adjustment nut.

4 Brake Caliper

Do not remove the brake line when replacing the brake disc.

5 Bolt

Always replace after removal.

180 Nm.

6 TORX Bolt

8 Brake Pads

Thickness: 11 mm, without backing plate.

Wear limit: 2 mm, without backing plate.

With a wear indicator.

When wear limit is reached (limit: approximately 4 mm), the warning lamp lights up in the instrument cluster.

Checking thickness, refer to => 17.1.

Must always be replaced together on both sides of the vehicle.

Do not remove the brake line when replacing the brake disc.

17 Brake Hose

Do not remove the brake hose when replacing the brake disc.

Make sure that the lugs are properly seated in the grooves in the bracket.

Component location: At the adjustment nut.

Distinguishing characteristics, compared to pull spring - item 21 -:

Larger number of spring coils

Can be easily bent by hand

Smaller number of spring coils

Cannot be easily bent by hand

24 Brake Shoe

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Shoes ] Brake Shoes.

Minimum brake pad thickness: 1 mm.

Checking thickness, refer to => 17.1.
