Timing Components: Adjustments

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Counterhold Tool Touareg V10 (T10172)

• Guide Pins (T10193) for cylinder bank 1

• Guide Pins (T10194) for cylinder bank 2

Procedure

- Remove the noise insulation (=> [ (Item 14) Noise Insulation ] Description and Operation) and covers (=> [ (Item 13) Cover ] Description and Operation) from the cylinder heads.

- Rotate the crankshaft slowly in engine rotation direction using the counterhold tool Touareg V10 (T10172) until the guide pin (T10193) for the camshaft for cylinder bank 1 and the guide pin (T10194) for the camshaft for cylinder bank 2 can be installed into the fitting holes as shown.






- Raise the vehicle on the hoist.

- Check whether the mark - arrow A - on the vibration damper aligns with the alignment pin - arrow B -.






If the marks do not align:

- Adjust the valve timing. Refer to => [ Valve Timing, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
