Mode 6 Data







Diagnostic Mode 06 - Read Test Results for Specific Diagnostic Functions

This diagnostic mode can only be selected with module number 10 (bank 1) and 11 (bank 2) - Engine Electronics.

Bank 1 = Cylinder bank 1, in direction of travel, right.

Bank 2 = Cylinder bank 2, in direction of travel, left.

Diagnostic Mode 06 makes it possible to retrieve test results for special components and systems which are continuously or not continuously monitored. If the diagnosis of a system is complete, the diagnostic result and the corresponding thresholds are saved and displayed in mode 06. This data remains saved (even with the ignition off) until either new diagnostic results become available or the DTC memory is erased.

The values of the individual test results must reach the specified value or must be within the min.- and max.- limits.





Test ID 01 - Heated Oxygen Sensors (G39 or G108)

Test Prerequisites

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory => [ Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory.

Coolant temperature must be at least 80° C => [ Diagnostic Mode 01 - Read Current System Data ] Diagnostic Mode 01 - Read Current System Data.

Procedure

- Read readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.

- Let engine run at idle.

- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".

- Select the "Test-ID 01: Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) -G39- or Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 -G108-".

- Perform a road test.

Observe the Safety Precautions that apply to road tests.

The following operating conditions must be met during this road test:

- Drive for 20 seconds in driving mode "D" on a level driving surface at a constant vehicle speed of 100 km/h. Then remove foot from accelerator pedal and thereby go into deceleration to 900 RPM.

- Check specified values.

Evaluation Test ID 01 - Heated Oxygen Sensors (G39 or G108)

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

If specified values are not obtained:

- Oxygen sensors and oxygen sensor control, checking => [ Heated Oxygen Sensor and Oxygen Sensor Control, Checking ] Heated Oxygen Sensor and Oxygen Sensor Control, Checking.

- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM) => [ Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory.

- Generate readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.

Test ID 09 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62)

Test Prerequisites

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory => [ Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory.

Coolant temperature must not be above the maximum of 20° C=> [ Diagnostic Mode 01 - Read Current System Data ] Diagnostic Mode 01 - Read Current System Data.

Procedure

- Read readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.

- Let engine run at idle.

- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".

- Select the "Test-ID 09: Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor G62-".

- Increase engine speed to above 1400 RPM.

- Check specified values.

Test ID 09 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62)





* Independent of coolant temperature.

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

If specified values are not obtained:

- Check Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (G62) => [ Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, Checking ] Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, Checking.

- Check coolant regulator in coolant regulator housing:

- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM) => [ Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory.

- Generate readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.

Test ID 11 - Fluid Temperature Sensor (G81) or Fuel Temperature Sensor 2 (G248)

Test Prerequisite

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory => [ Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory.

Procedure

- Read readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.

- Let engine run at idle.

- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".

- Select "Test-ID 11: Fuel Temperature Sensor -G81- or Fuel Temperature Sensor 2 -G248-".

- Check specified values.

Test ID 11 - Fluid Temperature Sensor (G81) or Fuel Temperature Sensor 2 (G248)





- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

If specified values are not obtained:

- Check Fuel Temperature Sensor (G81) or Fuel Temperature Sensor 2 (G248) => [ Fuel Temperature Sensor, Checking ] Fuel Temperature Sensor, Checking.

- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM) => [ Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory.

- Generate readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.

Test ID 12 - Intake Manifold Pressure/Charge Pressure

Test Prerequisite

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory => [ Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory.

Procedure

- Read readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.

- Switch ignition on.

- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".

- Select the "Test-ID 12: Intake manifold pressure / charge pressure".

- Check the specified values with ignition switched on.

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

If specified values are not obtained:

- Check Charge Air Pressure Sensor (G31) or Charge Air Pressure Sensor 2 (G447) => [ Charge Air Pressure Sensor, Checking ] Charge Air Pressure Sensor, Checking.

- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM) => [ Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory.

- Generate readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.

Test ID 31 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation

Test Prerequisite

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory => [ Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory.

Procedure

- Read readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.

- Let engine run at idle.

- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".

- Select the "Test-ID 31: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)".

- Increase engine speed to 1450 to 1750 RPM and hold it as constant as possible for 20 seconds.

- Check specified values.

Test ID 31 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation





* Dependent on permissible control deviation at current point of operation.

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

If specified values are not obtained:

- Check EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve (N18) or Valve 2 for EGR (N213) => [ Exhaust Gas Recirculation Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve, Checking ] Exhaust Gas Recirculation Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve, Checking.

- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM) => [ Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory ] Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory.

- Generate readiness code => [ Readiness Code ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.
