Engine Control Module DTC Memory, Checking and Erasing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Diagnostic Cable
• Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 A)
Procedure:
Connect the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051 A) as follows:
- Open the cover - 1 - (if equipped) and connect the diagnostic cable to the data link connector.
- Start the engine and run at idle speed.
Only when the engine does not start:
- Turn on the ignition.
Selecting operating mode:
- Press button on display for "Vehicle On Board Diagnostic (OBD)".
Selecting vehicle system:
- Press "01 - Engine electronics" on display to check engine control module (J623) for cylinder bank 1, or "11 - Engine electronics 2" on display to check engine control module 2 (J624) for cylinder bank 2.
The control module identification with code - 2 - of Engine Control Module (ECM), as well as the chassis number and immobilizer identification number will be indicated on the display.
• A printout is available. Press the print button if required.
Selecting diagnosis function:
- Press button "02 - Check DTC memory" on display.
- If no fault is stored in ECM "0 fault(s) detected" is displayed.
- If faults are stored in the ECM, these are shown one below the other on the display.
- Press the � button.
- Press button "05 - Erase DTC memory" on display.
- Press function "06 - End output".
