Exhaust Manifold Overview

• The components illustrated here are for cylinder bank 2. They are a mirror image of the components for cylinder bank 1.






1 Cylinder Head

2 Exhaust Manifold

• Can only be replaced when the engine is removed. Refer to => [ Engine, Removing ] Engine, Removing.

3 Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor

• 45 Nm

• Only on vehicles with engine code BWF.

Cylinder bank 1:

• Exhaust gas temperature sensor 1 (G235).

Cylinder bank 2:

• Bank 2 exhaust gas temperature sensor 1 (G236).

4 to the Turbocharger

• See => [ (Item 5) Turbocharger ] Turbocharger Overview.

5 Spacer Piece

6 Nut

• 23 Nm

• Always replace

• Observe the tightening sequence, refer to => [ Exhaust Manifold Nut Tightening Sequence ].

7 Bolt/Nut

• 4.5 Nm

8 Heat Shield

9 to the Connecting Pipe

• Vehicles with engine code BKW, see => [ (Item 12) Connecting Pipe ] EGR Components.

• Vehicles with engine code BWF, see => [ (Item 11) Connecting Pipe ] EGR System.

10 Gasket

• Always replace.

• Note the installed position.

Exhaust Manifold Nut Tightening Sequence





- Tighten the nuts in the sequence shown as follows:

• Tighten the nuts to 5 Nm

• Then, tighten the nuts to 23 Nm
