Generator Shaft Seal, Replacing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pulling Hook (T20143/1)
• Assembly Tool (T10208)
Procedure
Vehicles with Engine Code BKW:
- Remove the fuel filter. Refer to => [ Fuel Filter ] Removal and Replacement.
Vehicles with Engine Code BWF:
- Remove the bypass flap with cooler for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). Refer to => [ Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR ] Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR.
Continuation for all Vehicles:
- Remove the generator. Refer to => Electrical
Equipment 27 Removal and Installation.
• Be careful not to damage the sealing surface when removing the seal.
- Carefully remove the old seal from its seat using the pulling hook (T20143/1).
- Remove any oil residue on the input shaft for the generator using a clean cloth.
- Press the inner part of the seal toward the outside as shown.
- Install the guide sleeve (T10208/1) on the generator input shaft by hand and carefully slide the seal - A - on as far as the stop.
- First, position the pressure piece (T10208/2) and press in the inner part of the seal up to the stop.
- Now, position the pressure piece (T10208/3) and press in the outer part of the seal up to the stop.
The rest of the installation is basically a reverse of the removal sequence.
