Condition
Wind Noise from Door Mirror Area
Wind noise (humming/howling) from around outside mirror (left or right) under specific wind conditions.
NOTE:
DO NOT replace mirror for this condition. Mirrors replaced for this condition will be debited.
Technical Background
Fit tolerances or air overflow around articulated seal to outside mirror casing cap.
Production Solution
Continuous process monitoring, process optimization in assembly.
Service
Apply additional sealant to contact area between casing cap and articulated seal
Figure 1:
Apply tape on appropriate area and test drive to see if concern is resolved (see Figure 1).
Figure 2:
- Remove outside mirror cap, see Repair Manual Group 66 in ElsaWeb.
- Clean seal to remove dirt and grease (see Figure 2, arrows).
Figure 3:
- Butyl tape must be applied to the contact area at the front of the articulated seal (see Figure 3, green line).
Size of butyl tape: approx 80 mm (3.25 in.)
- Attach outside mirror cap, see Repair Manual Group 66 in ElsaWeb.
- Ensure outside mirror is working properly (moving it in different directions).
- Test drive to ensure repair.
