Instrument Cluster, Menu Options Missing from MFI
The following menus are not displayed or non functional on the instrument cluster:
1. Phone
2. Mirror adjustment
3. Phone menu is available, but unable to be scrolled through.
Technical Background
Incorrect software installed.
Production Solution
SW 9533 introduced as of 7L_9D020610.
Service
Tip: DO NOT remove instrument cluster from the vehicle.
- Connect Midtronics InCharge 940 (INC940) tester/charger to the vehicle's battery.
- VAS 5051/5052 with Brand CD version 14.88 or higher is required.
- Internet connection within reach of vehicle.
- Verify that the instrument cluster has not been updated.
NOTE:
- Prior to launching VAS-PC application and starting control module update process, confirm tester screen saver and power settings in accordance with Special Tools and Equipment - Service Information Circular # VSE-08-18. Failure to do so may result in the tester entering power save mode during data transfer, and subsequent control module failure.
- When using a VAS 5051B or VAS 5052A tester in conjunction with a VAS 5054A wireless transmitter head for a flash procedure, please connect a USB cable between the transmitter head and the tester. Failure to do so may lead to errors during the flash procedure.
Verify Instrument Cluster Software
- Select Vehicle Self - Diagnosis
- Select On Board Diagnostics (OBD)
- Select 17 - Instrument Cluster
- Verify the software is lower than 9533
- Write down the part number
Tip: If software level is found to be at 9533 or higher, this technical bulletin DOES NOT apply, further diagnosis is required.
Update Programming
Tip: The SVM Process must be completed in its entirety so the database receives the update confirmation response. A warranty claim may not be reimbursed if there is no confirmation response to support the claim.
- Find the correct SVM code based on the part number retrieved while using Vehicle Self Diagnosis.
- Install latest software SW 9533, using guided fault finding, via Software Version Management (SVM). This update is only possible online.
The procedure can be found in GFF under Functions/ Component Selection, Software Version Management, Adapting Software.
Tip: To Update-Programming using SVM, review and follow instructions in Technical Bulletin Instance 2014603 Software Version Management.
Instrument Cluster Functionality Changes: (Except One Color Display)
The following changes occur when software level 9533 is installed:
- The outside temperature display is now on the upper left of the screen. It was previously on the lower right of the screen
- The low fuel warning in the MFI changes from "Please refuel" to the statement; "Please refuel, range 40 miles
- The TPMS tire pressure and wheel indicator changes from orange to yellow.
