Steering Column, Handling and Transporting
• The correct handling of the steering column must always be observed.
• Incorrect handling of steering column may cause damage to steering column and therefore lead to a safety risk.
Correct Handling and Transporting of the Steering Column
• Transport the steering column with two hands
• Hold the steering column at the upper steering rod tube and in the area of the upper universal joint
• The cross support - 1 - must always point upward during transportation so the shaft does not come into contact with the steering column lock - 2 -.
Incorrect Handling of the Steering Column
Transporting at the following components leads to damage to the steering column:
1. Cross support
2. Weight compensation springs
3. Deformation element
Incorrect Handling of the Steering Column with a Safety Risk
The following handling practices lead to damage of the steering column lock - 1 -:
• Transporting the steering column with one hand on shaft
• Bending joints beyond 90° and coming to a stop on the steering column lock
• Placing the shaft on the steering column lock
• Placing the steering column on the steering column lock
