Hood, Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench 5 to 50 Nm (V.A.G 1331)
• The vehicle must be standing on the ground when adjusting the hood.
• The left and right buffers - 6 - are not for adjusting. They stabilize the hood - 5 -.
• The hood is properly adjusted when there is an overall even gap dimension when closed, it is not too far inward or outward and contours align.
• The hood must latch without much force into the hood latch.
- Remove the hood catch - 7 -. Refer to => [ Striker Pin ] Striker Pin
- Remove the gas-filled strut - 2 -. Refer to => [ Gas-Filled Strut ] Gas-Filled Strut
- Loosen, but do not remove the left and right bolts - 4 - from the hinge - 3 -. Now the hood can be centered between the fenders.
- In the rear area, the height of hood can be adjusted with respect to the fenders by loosening screws - 5 - on the left and right sides.
- Make sure the gap dimensions are even: => 00
- Apply the corrosion protection to the hinges, - 3 - and the bolts - 4 and 5 - after performing the adjustment.
- After the hood is adjusted, the striker pin - 7 - can be reinstalled and adjusted. Refer to => [ Striker Pin, Adjusting ] Striker Pin, Adjusting.
- The height of the front of the hood can be adjusted to the height of the fenders by adjusting the hood latch. Refer to => [ Hood Latch, Adjusting ] Hood Latch, Adjusting.
- Turn the adjusting buffer - 6 -.
