Rear Lid Tail Lamps

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1783)

Removing and installing the bulbs in the rear lid.

• The following illustrations show removing and installing on the left side. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

Removing

• Do not leave the remote control key inside the vehicle while removing and installing to prevent locking the doors or activating the "Coming Home / Leaving Home" feature.

- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and turn the key to the 0 position.

- Unclip the service cover - 1 - from the trim panel - 2 - in - direction of arrow -.






- Pull the primary connector and disconnect the connector - arrow -.






- Remove the nuts - 1 - and then remove the tail lamp from the rear lid.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Insert the tail lamp into the opening in the rear lid and push it upward and push it toward the center of the vehicle.

- Tighten the nuts on the outside first, and then the nuts on the inside - 1 - to the tightening specification shown in => [ Rear Lid Tail Lamps Overview ] Rear Lid Tail Lamps Overview.






- Connect the connector so that it clicks into the place the then install the primary connector.

- Check the gap dimensions between the tail lamp assembly and the body after installing the tail lamp assembly.

Removing and installing the bulbs in the rear lid:

• The following illustrations show removing and installing on the left side. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

Removing

- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and turn the key to the 0 position.

- Unclip the service cover - 1 - from the trim panel - 2 - in - direction of arrow -.






- Pull the primary connector and disconnect the connector - arrow -.






- Turn the bulb socket - 1 - in - direction of arrow - pull it out of the tail lamp housing together with the tail lamp bulb.






- Pull the tail lamp bulb straight out of the bulb socket in - direction of arrow -.






Tail lamp bulb - 2 -: glass base bulb 12V, W5W

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Connect the connector until it clicks into place and install the primary connector.
