Side Panel Tail Lamps

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1783)

Removing and installing the bulb holder

Removing

• The following illustrations show removing and installing on the left side. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and turn the key to the 0 position.

• Do not leave the remote control key inside the vehicle while removing and installing to prevent locking the doors or activating the "Coming Home / Leaving Home" feature.

- Open the service cover - 1 - in the side trim panel.






- Pull the primary connector - arrow - and disconnect the connector.






- Remove the screw - 1 - and pull the tail lamp assembly out of the side panel.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Connect the connector so that it clicks into the place the then install the primary connector.

- Insert the tail lamp housing into the guide in the side panel, item 7 Side Panel Tail Lamps Overview.

- Push the tail lamp housing downward so that it comes in contact with the opening.

- Tighten the bolt to the tightening specification shown in => [ Side Panel Tail Lamps Overview ] Side Panel Tail Lamps Overview.

- Check the gap dimensions between the tail lamp assembly and the body after installing the tail lamp assembly.

Removing and installing the bulb holder:

• Illustrations depict removal and installation of the left side. Removal and installation of the right side is performed symmetrically.

Removing

- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and turn the key to the 0 position.

- Remove the side panel tail lamps. Refer to => [ Side Panel Tail Lamps ].

- Open the four retainers in - direction of arrow - and remove the bulb holder - 1 - from the tail lamp housing.






- Pull the back-up lamp bulb - 1 - upward out of the bulb holder.






- Push the turn signal bulb - 2 - into the bulb socket, turn it to the left and remove it from the bulb holder.

- Push the brake and tail lamp bulb - 3 - into the bulb socket, turn it to the left and pull it out of the bulb holder.

Back-up lamp bulb - 1 -: glass base bulb 12V, W16W

Rear turn signal bulb - 2 -: bulb 12V, PY21W

Brake and tail lamp bulb - 3 -: bulb 12V, P21W

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Make sure all the retainers are locked securely when installing the bulb holder into the tail lamp housing.
