Front Exhaust Pipes with Catalytic Converters and Front Mufflers
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Ring Spanner 7-piece Set (3337)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)
Removing
- Remove the suction jet pump from the intake manifold if applicable.
- Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to => [ Upper Intake Manifold ] Upper Intake Manifold.
- Remove the coolant pipe from the heat shield - arrows -. Remove the bolts - 1 - and then remove the heat shield and intake manifold support.
- Remove the heated oxygen sensor and heated oxygen sensor 2. Refer to => [ Heated Oxygen Sensor G39 and Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 G108 ] Heated Oxygen Sensor G39 and Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 G108.
- Disconnect the connectors - 2 and 4 - for the oxygen sensor after three way catalytic converter and oxygen sensor 2 after catalytic converter.
- Free up the electrical wires to the oxygen sensors.
- Remove the oxygen sensor after three way catalytic converter and oxygen sensor 2 after catalytic converter.
- Remove the nuts for the front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold - arrows -.
• Do not bend the coupling elements of the exhaust pipes more than 20° or they could be damaged. Two technicians are needed to perform the removal procedure.
- Remove the suspended mount to subframe bolts - arrows -.
- Disconnect the exhaust system at the clamping sleeve - arrows -.
- Remove the front exhaust pipe with the catalytic converters and front mufflers from the exhaust manifold.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order while noting the following:
• Replace gaskets and self locking nuts.
