Lower Control Arm






Lower Control Arm

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Locating Pins (T10096)

Removing

- Remove the wheel.

- Remove the lower noise insulation.

- Remove the ball joint nuts - arrows -.






- Remove the wheel bearing housing and ball joint from the control arm.

- Secure the position of the lower control arm bracket. Refer to => [ Lower Control Arm Bracket, Securing ] Subframe, Securing.

- Replace the left and rights side bracket bolts - 1 and 2 - with the locating pins (T10096) and tighten the pins to 20 Nm.






The locating pins (T10096) may only be tightened to a maximum of 20 Nm, otherwise the threads on the pins will be damaged.

- Now, remove the bolt - 11 - on the right side of the vehicle and bolt - 12 - on the left side of the vehicle.

- Remove the bolts - 1 -.






- Remove the control arm and bracket.

Installing

- Install the control arm and bracket to the subframe.

- Install the bolts - 11 and 12 - but do not tighten them.






- Install the bolts - 1 - and tighten them to specification.






- Now, replace the locating pin (T10096) with a new bolt and tighten it.

- Install the ball joint to control arm nuts - arrows -.






- Install the control arm bolts - 11 and 12 - to the subframe and tighten them in the curb weight position. Refer to => [ Front Subframe ] Front Subframe.






Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.

- Install the lower noise insulation.

Make sure that the ball joint boot is not damaged or twisted.
